Question: The WAY TOO EARLY (who will be the QUARTERBACK in 2023) thread

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! Milroe needs a Blake Sims type transformation during the off-season and a good QB coach in order to win. Our defense isn’t good enough currently to win games with a run first QB that struggles with throwing mechanics.

In the age of the portal Saban knows he can’t keep his best players sitting on the bench due to seniority anymore. With that being said if Simpson improves like we all think he will in terms of reading the defense and making correct line checks he wins and never looks back. The kid has the ”it” factor and might not run a 4.3 like Milroe he probably runs a sub 4.5 with a much better arm.

Wouldn’t be surprised at all if we grab a QB from the portal. We went after Gardner Minshew as a backup.

Has Lonergan enrolled yet. I ain’t saying he’s the one but if TS has been 3rd all season, even when BY went down, then I have reservations about his development.
We only had 3 QB’s this season on scholly, where did you expect a true freshman to be placed at? If he passed Milroe then we could have been left with 2 scholarship QB’s if Milroe had left.

Struggles through his reads as well and just looks, uncomfortable, hesitant, overly anxious almost.
Just not fluid and cerebral.

I know Milroe had a rough outing but I did see a lot of potential. He is so dynamic that it could open up a lot of our offense. He just needs to continue to develop and get his nerves under check. I have no clue about Simpson since I’ve not seen him play in a game much.

Good point. Don’t get me wrong, I likeJM and hope he develops into the beast his athleticism allows, but I also think back to CNS opting for Hurts as his first ever true freshman starter as well.

It’s truly gonna be an interesting off season.

We'll probably never see a QB again with the pocket awareness, Houdini like ability to get out of trouble and just miraculous touch on a football like Bryce Young had who himself had to follow up behind a season like Mac had. TS was one of the highest rated HS QB's in his cycle. A 5 star who is talented with a good arm. I fully expect to see him eventually be the starter but I bet you CNS is gonna play Milroe. It's up to him to get better and he has a long way too go. Rtr.

I vote for any QB on the roster not named Milroe. I have no idea how good the rest are against SEC defenses, but I have seen enough of Milroe to believe that he will be a project which means at least one more wasted season.

We do not have a couple of years for a quarterback to develop like Mac Jones did nor for Milroe to develop. I hope Simpson is up for the job because we are at this point to where we will lose games with the others. AJ McCarron was really the second string QB but was called the third for some reason.

I think whoever CNS decides as starting quarterback will be fine with me. Milroe is going to be very good, as will Simpson. Milroe will get better with passing and decision making. He made one bad throw decision. We're just not going to have another Hurts/Tua/Mac/Young in 2023. And Simpson won't wear their shoes any more than Milroe. But I think both will be ready if called on. Milroe makes a few corrections, and he'll be a dangerous quarterback.
