Did Meyer make promises to get Tebow?

I noticed in the UF/UT game, that TT got at least 1 play each quarter. Could he have been promised this to go to UF? Seems kinda extreme, if so, but hey, at least CUM didn't have to hire TT's high school Coach, to get him to play for him, ala Arkie.

Don't know about that, but I think the way Meyer is substituting him leaves something to be desired and says a lot about his football team.

Tebow looks like a hoss. Seems to be a natural runner which would fit UF style much better than ours. Have a feeling we will be seeing alot of him over next few years (along with Stafford and Mustain).

neither team impressed me greatly. both offenses looked like they were hoping the defense made a mistake so they could score. both defenses looked like they hoped the offense made a mistake so they could stop them. it all looked like everybody was looking to somebody else to make the play for them. contrast that to the AU/LSU game. both teams have good offenses but their defenses are nothing but sick...i'm not talking flu sick, I'm talking full blown Ebola Virus sick. I don't think any offense is going to look to good against either team (AU or LSU) this year.

I'm sure he made promises...That's nothing unusual, although all coaches will tell you the never make promises...However, last night wasn't an example of him playing him bc of promises...he used TT masterfully last night...he put him in on 3rd and short situations, where he could run the draw or the option...It gives them the passing of Leak and the rushing of Tebow...it's a good combination for them

I also noticed Meyer put TT in the game on a critical 4th & short, with the game on the line. Confidence, or not, that's asking a lot from a true freshman, not to mention what a risk it was, IMO.

Agree 100%

Of course he made promises to him. Recruiting is a lot like a guy wooing a girl, he'll tell her ANYTHING to get what he wants. In Tebow's case though, the UF was a pretty easy sell given Tebow's background with Florida and their QB situation. Besides, UM would be an idiot if he didn't give TT some PT, he's gonna be the man next season.

For this year, anyway, it makes the Florida offense look too predictable when TT is in. All the defense has to do is to shut down the run or option. Stick 6 in the box.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking every time he entered the game last night, but apparently our coaches couldnt figure that out :conf2:

Until Chris Leak decides that sometimes you have to take hit to get the extra yard instead of sliding and coming up short forcing a 4th and 1, TT will get a lot of reps in short yardage situations. Nothing wrong with playing the guy who wants it more.

I think Tebow will be a great player for the urban myth. Of course, if all he gets are a few plays each game, it's a waste of a year of eligibility which is great for Bama.

Guys, I'm going to be frank... and I know some will disagree with me about the things I say. TT, IMO, never truly had an interest in Alabama... at least not to the point of considering coming here. I realize (before some tell me) that TT often said that Alabama was a major player... that he could see himself in the crimson uniform. While I am not saying he was completely dishonest, think of the fact that ESPN was doing a documentary on his HS senior year... they did the piece because they wanted to provide a show to America that would allow the general public "an insight" into the recruitment of a high-profile HS player.

With that background, think about this... if TT is UF "all the way" in everything he does, ESPN doesn't get the "full effect" of their piece. Remember I said TT was not completely dishonest... although I realize his character is documented as being very high, I don't think he was completely honest either. "Tim, who'd you choose if NSD were today?" "Well," he might answer, "I could see myself at either UF or UA." The only problem was, however, that he meant he could only see himself at UA IF a natural disaster wiped Gainesville off the map. I'm exagerating of course... I do believe we were in his "top two" for a long time. However, the distance between his "top two" (IMO, regardless of what he may say publicly/privately) was the distance between a Cadillac and a bicycle... I say that to say this: UF didn't have to make him a lot of promises... they only had to hold serve against the other suitors.

I saw some sort of Urban Meyer interview last week and they were asking about Tebow playing some this season. Meyer said he would defintely play each game, if it was close, if it was a blowout, it didn't matter he said he would play. Meyer said that coaches and teams that rely on 1 quarterback for 4 years are in a world of hurt when that player graduates so it was important to get Tebow some snaps each game.

Forget what I saw this on, but I did see it.

Bamarich:

Consider this possibility:

Tebow & family knew they had to spice things up for ESPN, and they had to make Tim appear to be the national recruit that he was. So, they talked to the big powerhouses like USC, Bama, Michigan, etc as well as family favorite Florida.

However, a funny thing happened on the way to his parents alma mater. Tebow actually became enamored with Mike Shula and University of Alabama. It wasn't planned. Alabama was supposed to be a prop...but sometimes the movie star doesn't fall for the leading lady...sometimes he falls for the girl from the supporting cast.

Also, suppose Shula realizes early that Tebow is a Florida lock. Does he fold his tent and stalk off angrily? No, he realizes the value of having the nation's #1 recruit actively considering his program. After all, its all going to be played out on ESPN and other blue chip recruits are looking to see who Tebow is considering.

Its no secret Shula wants to actively recruit Florida talent. What better way to make in-roads and send a signal to the Florida schools than to go after the state's most prized recruit?

Tebow may have used Bama, but Bama also used him. In life, its often possible to lose a battle a win the war. Shula was trying to win the war...and I think his unsuccessful recruitment of Tebow was a pretty good start. RTR.

No 1. Prox, I think you are giving them too much credit on that recruitment of TT. I think they were after a very charismatic player and natural leader who may one day be a very able quarterback who fits UM's style perfectly.

No.2 The possibility of TT coming to the University of Alabama were about as good as BC not coming to Alabama. The wheels were set in motion from the time TT became Florida's all time high school leader in total yardage, touchdowns, and others. If he had committed to the University of Alabama during that broadcast I don't think he would've made it out of the gym alive, much less crossed the state line. I bet he and Brodie Croyle could have a very interesting conversation on the pressure of being the saviors of thier respective state universities.

You are all wrong about BAMA's recruitment of Tebow...

Some of my close friends live in Jacksonville, FL. This family is good friends with the Tebow family and they go to church with the,. According to my friends (whom I would trust with my life), TT truly struggled with his decision on where to play football. He really liked the BAMA coaching staff and the atmosphere at BDS on game days. He even went so far as to say that the hardest phone call he ever had to make was to call CMS to tell him that he was going to the gators.

Now I realize that this is second-hand information and would not be admitted into a court of law. However, this story is something you can "take to the bank."
