From now on I am going to do my best to be in the student section, so hopefully it won't be a problem anymore...but right after the game started Saturday, our offense just ran onto the field for the first time the game had just started, and my sister and I were standing up (as we usually are, we both have trouble sitting during the game, too excited. it is FOOTBALL GAME, not baseball or tennis). Well this man sitting behind us, sitting up straight, hands on knees, with his chart in his lap that told him who all the players were, asked us to sit down!!!!!!!!! He said we could stand up every now and then, but to please sit down, his wife couldn't see. Now these people weren't old or elderly...oh it made us so mad!! especially my 14 year old sister (she never wants to sit, she says it's not baseball! i have raised her right :) )

I could of just stayed standing i suppose, but for the rest of the game, i felt the need to sit! except when my reflexes kicked in, big play or 3rd down on defense, or that 4th down......what do you think, should i sit? or should we stand anyway, after all i paid for the seat. if everyone would stand, it wouldn't be a problem! :) commercials and halftime are for sitting!

btw, i loved that they played Sweet Home Alabama after the 3rd quarter, they should do that before every 4th! and love the dixieland delight!!

If you don't like people standing at the game then you need to watch the game in your La-Z-Boy at home. That's how I feel.

I am with you on that one.

I experienced the same thing at the Falcons/Bucs game yesterday. The lady next to me got so mad when the people in front of her stood to cheer on 3rd down or on big plays. If you don't care, then watch the game at home for crying out loud. If you are elderly, it is one thing. But I also stand up because the people in front of me are standing and I want to see the play. What are you going to do? Ask thousands of people to sit so you aren't in stepping on one couples' toes?

Both tickets should have been $35 face value, I believe, which means his seat allows him to sit if he wants and you to stand if you want. You don't have to be rude in your decision, but you paid what everybody else paid (as far as face value of a ticket is concerned). The unfortunate part of this is that if you ignore him & stand or tell him that you paid your $$ and like to stand, then you are going to be perceived as the "bad guy"....especially if you are in a section that likes to sit. In my mind, this is JUST NOT RIGHT & is an issue with too many people in BDS. This will forever be an issue in most any stadium you visit-BDS included-but in the end, you paid for your ticket like the other 92,000 and if you want to stand, then you stand. My only exception is if it is an elderly person or someone who is not able to stand is sitting behind you.

RTR-stop the streak

The only time I have a problem with people standing is when the wave comes around. I hate that and would love to sucker punch the loser that starts it.

I liked Sweet Home Alabama at the end of the 3rd too. Of course the band played Basket Case at the same time.

I'd be more than happy to help.

I feel bad when I stand in front of someone who is sitting. But what do they expect? Some things change, and most people don't sit anymore. I would recomend ordering tickits early in front rows where you can sit.

But then they would have to stand to see:wink: ;)

oh come on, what is really wrong with the wave? it looks very cool in that round stadium, all the red and white...crimson tide - and once ANYTHING happens in the game, it kills it..usually done during commercials. besides, my sis loves it. :)

you'll be happy to know these people behind me didn't stand during the wave either ;) - i'm beginning to wonder if they stood during the national anthem

they need to install some sort of heating device in the bleachers, so they get hot.....:) or first, get rid of the seat cushions they put out!!!!!!!!!!!

You could have offered to exchange seats with them. The view would've been almost the same but then their problem would've transferred to someone else instead of you. I'm sure the real problem came and left the game them. I'm sorry they made you feel bad.

didn't really understand that next to last sentence.....but we thought of that, but there were three of us, two of them....they did leave pretty early in the 4th, so that was good.

Good grief, it's a football game. I you don't want to stand, stay at home.

yeah that pretty much sums up my feelings on it...just wanted to make sure i wasn't being unreasonable.

but whoever said you come off as the bad guy--that is true. and that's sad!

I've tried this. At LSU in 02, we were on the next-to-last row on the end in the west upper deck (can you say vertigo?) These LSU women were behind us (not like they couldn't see...I mean their knees were practically at our shoulders in that place...but whatev) and one of them put her hand on my shoulder and said "you can either sit down, or swap with us." Naturally, I said "Okay, we'll swap...no big deal." Her reply? "Well. I didn't really want to do that."

doh-kaaaay....

The tickets they bought were for "seats". Of course those seats are in the "stands". I....I.....don't know what's right.:conf2:

Seriously, I'm more for sitting to watch the game and then standing up when something exciting happens. Breaking the huddle and lining up is not exciting.

Don't feel bad, Bamagrl.

To come to a football game and ask someone else (who has every right to enjoy the game as much as they do) to do something that will lessen THEIR enjoyment of the game is quite presumptuous.

They are the ones that should be sorry. Maybe they would feel more at home at the opera.

Happens at every event. I suppose there were "the sitters" when Christians were fighting the lions.

I was at 2 concerts a few years ago; rowdy but peaceful at the Skynyrd concert, but at the Elton John (I accompanied the wife) a fight broke out between a lady and a man because the lady wouldn't sit down. There was lots of slapping going on, from both.

btw Miss A, i was at that lsu game too, and in the upper deck, very close to the lights..yes VERTIGO!!! (although i still saw that it was OBVIOUSLY pass interference :) )

yeah my sister got asked to sit down at a kenny chesney concert, couldn't believe it!

When my wife and I went to see the Tide play Iowa Stata in the Independance Bowl a few years ago, we were also asked to sit - by a couple in their 50s. I asked why they couldn't stand. They said that they preferred to sit. I said that my wife and I preferred to stand, though we would certainly sit on some occasions. The gentleman got a bit heated. I smiled and asked him why he was there. He said to support Alabama. I said we are all in it together, and I think the team might need our help tonight. He agreed, and he and his wife stood. We barely pulled that game out. The crowd certainly helped. I still exchange emails with the couple.

IMO, the fans have a responsibility to the team, and they cannot fulfill that responsibility sitting quietly on their duffs the entire game...
