Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UTw...

I’m a wait and see kinda guy for most everything and that’s what I plan to do. We won’t see a front seven like that again all season unless we play UGA. Let the season play out and see what happens. Not blind to the issues but it could get better (or worse). Right now I do think 11-2 (with a bowl win) is the ceiling.

Excuses.

This team literally has more talent (according to recruiting rankings) than any team EVER. Three of the top sixe recruiting classes EVER RECORDED are playing for Bama right now - not the top six in Bama history, but the top six in CFB recruiting history.

If you can't win with that.. heck, if you can't field a solid team with that - there are much, much deeper issues.

I feel your frustration; I really do. And if college football were the same as it was just a few years ago, I would agree, but it isn’t. NIL and the quitter hole have turned college football into a damned minor league system for the NFL.

recruiting rankings don’t mean much when college football has what is basically a free agency system. And make No mistake, I absolutely HATE this.

The mesh concepts and deep over routes we run are highly successful when we have protection. The problem is people are blitzing us so they don’t have to defend them. We don’t have an effective quick game to respond to pressure or screen game to block them when they drop 8 to smother those routes.

I didn't want the end of an era to come so soon. But we're in a new age of college football. Everyone seems to be trying to adjust.

It literally doesn’t matter what we do with the QB position. Our OL got absolutely manhandled by a Big12 team. “Honk if you sacked Milroe” might be a thing now.

When they gave time there still too many missed passes, interceptions, and then the dang penalties.

I feel terrible for the players more than anyone. I can't imagine what it must feel like.

Some former player a few years.ago mentioned the idea of not wanting to be the guys who let it end. But it's not really like that. I hope they don't feel that way
Me either. CNS hasn't had his usual fire in a long time. I don't know what is wrong.

Initial thoughts:

Milroe is what many of us thought he is. Not sure the root cause, but he's not seeing the field (there were guys open all night he didn't try to throw to), and he throws late. The INTs were on routes where he threw later than he should have instead of anticipating the breaks, he waits till the WR is out of the break. He's been doing it in all the practices and it showed tonight.

Steele needs to unleash the OLBs. Too many times he's having the OLB drop into coverage and only rushing 3. Our EDGE guys are some of the best pass rushers in the game and he's got them dropping into pass coverage, consistently. That's unlikely to work well.

Yep. Don't be surprised when the recruiting ranking starts sliding.
That may already be happening to some degree. This next class doesn't look like it's going to be quite as strong. The following class looks good right now but it's a long way out.

It also might not be an immediate dramatic fall. We'll still be a good team just maybe not competing for a championship every year. Really depends on how Saban responds and when he retires.

I used to pace back and forth while watching close games, but I am not excited about the direction of college football now. I thought once the season started I'd get back into it, last week was nice but I was kinda "Meh" and tonight I yelled at the TV a few times, hurled some profanities, but no pacing and I accepted the loss a lot better than years past.
