Where the land meets the sky
I have a feeling that this weekend is when CNS stirs the pot and Buchner starts. If Simpson leaves and/or Milroe that will leave room for Sayin.

"He played really well in the last scrimmage, and he's done well in practice," Saban said Monday. "So we feel really good about how he's continued to improve and develop and gain confidence in what he's doing and had a good feeling around the teammates and receivers and all that type of thing.”

Saban confident about Buchner

Yep, there ya go, setting the stage to either start him or get him significant playing time this weekend. I'm certain after the coaches watched the film, a lot of realities set in about the current QB situation.

But again, that doesn't absolve the crap show that was the Oline and all the big talk in the offseason about "murder ball" then they go out there and get their jock straps tied in a bow around their necks by Texas' DL. ZERO excuse...

Maybe the OL wasn't as "comfortable" as I thought in week one with JM.

A lot of the breakdowns by the OL started happening before JM got into any pass play. I cannot count the times the DT's for Texas beat our OL AT THE SNAP, like they were already passing by them before JM could get into his second or third step in the drop back. That has nothing to do with the QB. That's just getting yo butt handed to you.

Yeah, the crazy thing is that JM had plenty of time when he threw the ball into triple coverage.

Seems to me that the froghorn D sold out to contain and pressure Milroe knowing his slow decision making would give them the advantage. Our O line had a poor showing but it was exacerbated by that fact. Then our play calling nailed us. Where were the designed QB runs? Many, many times Jalen could have taken off running and picked up first down yardage or more but he tried to pull a Bryce and search for an open receiver instead. That is not his game.

Trying to be optimistic, but unless O line play improves 100%, will it matter who is QB1?

Texas has 2 1st round DT's. Anyone in the country is going to have their handsful with those guys.

The pass protection issues fall on the QB play. Milroe wouldnt climb the pocket. Then he'd scramble out of a good pocket. He didnt get rid of the ball quickly. He is a hard guy to pass protect for.

Also after the 1st quarter, when texas realized we couldnt throw. They were really aggressive in stopping the ground gain.

The OL is going to be improved. The wideouts are a good group, same with RBs, TE's are very good. The QB play is the key to the offense and Milroe needs to change positions or transfer to Syracuse. He'd be good there

That's what I couldn't understand, one play the OL blocked well enough for JM to throw downfield, then they'd reel off two plays where they were getting destroyed off the snap. That's what baffled me was the inconsistency at the point of contact with the OL.

JM holds the ball too long and almost all of his throws are late. Many noticed that the first game.
At least TB has a quicker release. Oh course it doesn't matter if he has to pick the ball up off the carpet every snap. QB play may be dependent on the play from C. Maybe JM is much better at dealing with errant snaps?

Yes, the OL pass protection was bad. Yes, the Texas DL did a great job.

Milroe isn't checking out of a play or changing protections though. Also, the RB's can't stand their ground on blitz pickup.

Maybe getting Milroe out there was one of those (see, I told you) moments from Saban.

I still don't think Buchner starts vs USF, but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised. If he plays, I hope he takes care of the ball and checks out of bad matchups.

Still has me worried that Milroe won the job, so I'm not sure what to expect behind him.

GMac said this morning JM could have climbed the pocket and bought time on several occasions and just bailed instead. On one of the interceptions it was a one route play. JM’s job was to look the defender off and make the pass but he didn’t. The oline had issues but with no real passing threat to the defense, they just teed off on our oline.

I watch NE and Mac Jones yesterday, he’s so good at working the pocket and buying time. That’s what we need out of a qb.

I watched Tua carve up the Chargers. That is also what we could use out of a quarterback!

I forgot all about Mac going up against Hurts yesterday. Eagles win, but Mac looked much better than having a defensive guy calling offensive plays last year. Even though it was BOB, at least he's back in his element.

What Mac is also so good at is throwing the ball to where the receiver will be. I watch the game yesterday and he was releasing the ball before receivers had even made their breaks. He would throw into a small window that no defender is covering. If a QB waits until a receiver is open before he throws, he is going to be late alot and miss many other opportunities.

The OL has work to do. But Milroe ran into pressure/sacks multiple times.

The Milroe we saw against the froghorns is the one that coaches have been seeing since the Spring. That is why Buckner was brought in...as a stop gap. But the first game gave the coaches a false sense of reality and drew up a horrible gameplan based on it. JM should have been RPOing from the start of the game along with at least a dozen designed runs. Game planning killed us.

It will matter. A guy that can distribute the ball effectively and make quick reads will make the olines job easier. It won’t fix everything but watch Mac Jones yesterday. He had a patch work Oline and was still effective because he got rid of the ball. JM is boom or bust. He either throws a 60 yard pass or nothing. We need the short and intermediate game to loosen the defense so the running game can be more effective. The LB’s and safeties can’t come downhill with their hair on fire if they have to cover the middle of the field sideline to sideline.
