Here is a good article on Jimbo I saw today on espn. I wasn't aware of some of the things happening and his attitude about certain things. Still can't believe he is getting that much money to not coach.

I would argue - as I have here previously - he was never that good of a coach in the first place. Take away the Winston years (2013-14) from him, and he's 101-47 (.682).

That puts him in with the following coaches:

Amos Alonzo Stagg (.683)
Charley McClendon (.682)
Henry Frnka (.681)
Bobby Petrino (.680)
Mike Belotti (.678)

None of those coaches is an all-time great, they're basically just above average college coaches at best. And while folks can say Stagg was a legend, he only won 314 games because he coached for 65 years, and some of those were against the equivalent of high school teams - literally in that time.
Stagg wasn't a legend because he was a great coach (although tbf he was an early innovator), he's a legend because he lived to be 103 and coached for 65 years. If Saban coached for 65 years at his winning percentage, he'd retire with 734 wins.

Jimbo was just never that great to begin with. Even with Winston, he had 8 of his 27 wins very narrow (one score), including his title win against Auburn.

He's Bobby Petrino with a national championship ring.
That's all he is.

Kirby's not taking the job mark it down, I don't think it's Lanning either he wants the Bama job when it does come open some day, I believe it's Elko he is just a football coach that is what they need

Lanning 100% shut it down in an interview the other day when asked about the 8&4 job. Unequivocally said 'not interested'.

Well, if I actually believed anything that comes out of a college football coach mouth, I'd agree this closes the door.

That said, Lanning has a team in the playoff hunt and cannot afford the distraction, so he smothered it immediately (smart move). I think he's out because the players need to know who it is before they enter the portal.

And in all honesty, Oregon is probably the better job with less booster and donor interference right now. The pressure on the next guy at aTm - with Texas and OU joining the SEC - is going to be crushing. Although I think Lanning would fit right in at College Station - he continually overthinks and makes stupid choices that blow games (both Oregon St last year and Washington this year). Sounds like a perfect fit in Aggie-ville to me.

Not to take up for Kiffin, but at Ole Miss he has never been close to even on talent level in any of the big games.

He did have some big wins at USC. In particular a win at Oregon that knocked them out of the running for the BCS and us back in. I can't remember if it was 2011 or 2012.
Definitely agree. But still would like him to win at least one big game at Ole Miss even with the talent gap. I do think he'd make a lot of sense for A&M

I have, though it's been many years.

I do recall thinking that if that campus is indicative to what it looks like to have 10x the money Bama does, I'd rather be poor 'ol Bama...
It feels like somebody with more money than sense said "Let's build a school out in the middle of this ranch." It's such an uninspiring place. KF is an impressive stadium but I didn't see anything else that made me think, "Wow, this would be a cool place to spend 4 years."

I just get the sense every time CNS addresses the "elephant in the room" that he has absolutely no plans of not coaching in the near future.

I realize one life-changing event could happen to him or Miss Terry and could change all of that, but he seems like a guy who plans to be around at least another 5 years or so.

Every year he stays it increases the chance that the next Bama coach is somebody nobody is even considering right now.

I mean, there's even a thread on TexAgs making fun of the Soviet-era brutalist architecture that's so common on campus. I mean, it's UGLY compared to the tradiational SEC campuses.

I have been there as well a few years back. I think we stomped them that night, but the campus is pretty plain and not alot of interesting things to see or do. I recall the stadium was extremely loud for a little while and they were not even that bad seeing me wearing Bama gear.
