There has to be a refinement in the targeting calls - too many calls are being made on basic football hits, things that literally happen hundreds of times per game as they are unavoidable in a contact sport.Never would have been called had it not been the QB. Oh well.

The offensive player went low. At some point we have to admit that there will always be contact when the ball-carrier ducks his head or dives forward. That one wasavoidable. The guy literally lowered his head and launched himself at the other player. Not sure that I love the targeting rule as written but that is the exact kind of tackle that we need to get out of the game.
Yep, but if he keeps his head up there is no penalty. Once he lowered his head and launched, he was wrong. Whatever happened after that was out of his control, and his fault entirelyThe offensive player went low. The mere fact that every week we constantly and consistently disagree among ourselves on this board about targeting calls in games where no one has “a dog in the fight” speaks volumes. We have some very knowledgeable posters on this board and even we can’t reach a consensus in most cases of whether or not a targeting/non targeting call was correct.Yep, but if he keeps his head up there is no penalty.
