Any of you watching Ms. State vs Ole Miss today?

Late to the party, but yes I’m watching. It’s SEC football and I don’t think either one winning affects us in any way. We win out and we’re in. First things first let’s take care of the fellers from Lee county. RTR

There has to be a refinement in the targeting calls - too many calls are being made on basic football hits, things that literally happen hundreds of times per game as they are unavoidable in a contact sport.
That one was 💯 avoidable. The guy literally lowered his head and launched himself at the other player. Not sure that I love the targeting rule as written but that is the exact kind of tackle that we need to get out of the game.

The offensive player went low. At some point we have to admit that there will always be contact when the ball-carrier ducks his head or dives forward.

Yep, but if he keeps his head up there is no penalty. Once he lowered his head and launched, he was wrong. Whatever happened after that was out of his control, and his fault entirely

I get the rule, I promise.

My point is this klind of hit happens lilterally hundreds of times per game, all over the field. At some point we have to either reduce impacts entirely or admit this is part of the game.

That was one of the least egregious 'targeting' calls I've seen. It was a basic football play.

And FTR, I couldn't care less about either team. I'm just tired of regular football plays being called as if it's about safety when at least half the time player safety isn't even an issue.

It's okay to admit the rule needs refining. It doesn't mean we want to see player risk injury.

I'm done.

The mere fact that every week we constantly and consistently disagree among ourselves on this board about targeting calls in games where no one has “a dog in the fight” speaks volumes. We have some very knowledgeable posters on this board and even we can’t reach a consensus in most cases of whether or not a targeting/non targeting call was correct.

Agreed. Fix it or get rid of it

Sark has been getting a lot of success this year with the short yardage play pass for TD’s. I see LK is following suit.
