Dates set for some games in Alabama’s 2024 schedule

There are brutal schedules, and after seeing this…. I don’t know what you call it but it is obscene. Wow!

Still, the last time we had a schedule this hard we ran the table to a national championship.

Also, this conference alignment is beyond stupid. I hated when we added 8&4 and Mizzou and I hate it even more that we’ve added Texas and Oklahoma. This is lunacy.

All this handwringing already?

Yeah, it appears to be a tough schedule but I'm gonna wait and see what the rest of the conference schedule looks like before I pay attention to the pessimistic Eeyore mentality. There won't be East-West division so each teams SEC-SOS will vary year to year. The east being the historically weaker division won't be an argument anymore. I think we build on the progress we made this year and come out stronger as an offensive threat. Defense? Remains to be seen but I trust in CNS to compensate for the losses we'll suffer there.

I wish they had moved us and the barn to the East and put Missouri and the new schools in the West and had no permanent crossovers with a 7-2 schedule. But nobody wants divisions anymore so that ship has sailed.

Eeyore mentality? Check yourself.

In my mind, I don’t get too concerned with how many strong teams appear on the schedule, based on 2023 results. Conversely, I don’t give games against Wisconsin and South Carolina a pass, just because they both sucked this year. The keys to our season have been LSU, Tennessee, and Auburn for a long time. Now, adding in Oklahoma and these past two years, Texas, it gets harder.

It’s Georgia that needs to say its prayers following the completion of this season. They’ve been living large on the SEC East, and having Auburn and a couple Mississippi schools in the West to play. While Ole Miss was improved this year, UGA plays OU and Texas next year I believe, and Alabama again. It’s gonna get a lot harder for them.
About time.

I hate how much influence ESPN has over the schedule. Auburn only has 4 dates set right now. ESPN is trying to spread out the "big games". Bama @ Oklahoma is already set for Nov. 23. That's the big one that week so, I expect ESPN to give Auburn a not so big game for TV reasons. My guess is either Ark. or Vandy. Will not be a cupcake because they have LA-Monroe on the 16th.

We'd better get whatever we have to get figured out done in those first two games at home vs WKU and USF.

9/14 at Wisconsin....they'll be improving under Fickel
9/21 Missouri / SCarolina / at Vandy or OPEN
9/28 Georgia
10/5 Missouri / SCarolina / at Vandy or OPEN
10/12 Missouri / SCarolina / at Vandy or OPEN
10/19 at Tennessee
10/26 Missouri / SCarolina / at Vandy (won't be open, we're always open before LSU)
11/2 OPEN
11/9 at LSU
11/16 Mercer
11/23 at Oklahoma
11/30 Auburn

So we will have two OPEN dates since we have 3 games not set, probable open date before LSU again, and 4 dates not set.

-Wisconsin likely will be ranked early in the season at least.
-Missouri probably starts ranked next year as well
-Georgia....top 3 again
-Tennessee may be ranked, don't know what they've got next year
-LSU...top 15 probably
-Oklahoma...top 15 probably
-Auburn...who knows

Road schedule in November is interesting

Overall road schedule....Wisconsin / Tennessee / LSU / Oklahoma

And the talking heads will still be talking about Bama playing Mercer in November....which should be a non-starter as a topic after this schedule.

We definitely won't be undefeated in 2024, hopefully we're in the hunt for the 12 team playoff. That's a ridiculously tough schedule.

Of course, no one knows what these other teams are going to be. We don't even know what Alabama will be.

But let's assume we have minimal losses to the NFL or Portal. Let's assume Milroe goes ahead and improves across the off season at the same rate he improved during this season. If these are the case, AND if we miss out on the playoff this year due to committee shenanigans, we are going to be VERY good and VERY motivated.

Oklahoma has been a mixed bag since Stoops retired. That's still going to be a tough road trip, especially in November. I've seen some very cold games be played in Oklahoma in late November. Yes, Auburn is the next week but it is in Tuscaloosa and we murder them there.

Wisconsin cannot match up with us. The game is in Madison, yes, so that's going to be a challenge. But we will be favored. Probably by 10 or more.

Georgia is Georgia and it will be the toughest game, but it is in Tuscaloosa.

LSU and Tennessee will be talented, but look what they did in their 2nd years under their new HCs.

It's certainly going to be entertaining.

How in gods name is it fair to play oklahoma right before auburn???

Its almost like the SEC were banking on SOS being rewarded by the playoff committee but that just doesn't seem to be the case with these last few committees.

It's hard to say this as far out as we are from the end of the 2024 season, but I'm wondering how many losses a pre-season top 25 team might possibly be able to have, and still make a run into the final 12.

Obviously, it's just interesting to think about, but no way to even remotely predict, but I'm doing it anyway: We will have at least one, 3 loss team sneak into the CFP at #11 or #12. They will have won a G5 conference title, like NMSU has a chance to do this weekend. A P5 team? I expect we will have a weird set up where someone with 2 losses sneaks in. For instance, assume we lose this weekend to UGA, and it's a battle. Lose by a FG.

Is Alabama still a good enough team to be in the CFP final 12? I'd say yes. I'd put us, right now, head to head against FSU, Washington, Michigan, and especially Texas, and we have a great chance to win.

Again, hard to say or predict, but fun to think about.

An open date before UGA or UT either one would be nice.
