You guys are trying to resolve an emotional response with logic. We all understand why they are upset. And they are not Alabama, so missing out is not anything like Alabama missing out last year. This was their shot, and an injury cost them. Tough to swallow.

Let them grieve - except for Danny boy. He deserves what he gets. He hates Alabama and doesn't even try to hide it.

There's a pretty big elephant in the room in terms of the radical departure that the committee took somewhere along the way (it does after all consist of rotating members).

The committee used to value SoS to such an extent that even I was a bit put off by it. They started off somewhat reasonable, undefeated Iowa behind two one loss teams. Undefeated FSU behind two one loss teams. This was an SoS, data driven argument.

Then they put two loss Auburn over two one loss teams, and also over an undefeated team. People got so caught up in the moment they lost track of how big a reach that was, and it wasn't helped when Auburn ended up with 4 losses. If you compare what they did with Auburn in 2017 to what they did just now, it's nothing in comparison. At the same time though, the committee didn't even put an undefeated UCF in the top 10, despite a relatively respectable SoS.

Then somewhere along the lines they flipped things, to a bit of an extreme on the other end, this time Cincinnati gets in and gets spanked by Alabama. Cincinnati's SoS was basically the same as UCF's in 2017 (71 vs 72). They are playing in the same exact conference! They are both undefeated, and what are the rankings? Cincinnati is 4 and UCF is 12!

You can look at the schedule and rationalize things and try to explain how you got there, but you can't give Cincinnati that much respect for basically one single game, while UCF is ranked behind two and three loss teams (the BCS had UCF at 9). It was remarkable hubris by the committee and it's kind of how we got here. The committee now feels like they can just do what ever they want, when they want.

SoS matters, sometimes. Head to head matters, sometimes. Conference matters, sometimes. Injuries matter, sometimes. They are remarkably inconsistent and they're not very reasonable because they can obsess over one particular detail. I think Alabama belongs in, I've made the case the entire time, but it's driven by SoS not by some weird injury criteria.
I have said it for years. Context is the most important thing in college football, and you have to look at ALL the context, not just some of it. The people spewing "FSU IS UNDEFEATED! That's all that matters" simply refuse to look at the entire context. And again, those people just don't understand college football.

I realized this yesterday when I tried to explain to others on social media why the committee did what they did. I should have realized they would inevitably respond with crap like "you don't know football", "you're just an ESPN/SEC shill", or "Bama needed a Hail Mary to beat Auburn". I'm done trying to convince these people that they're wrong. They're never gonna get it.

Early season polls have an unintended greater influence than expected...highly ranking teams who obviously are not good or in a competitive conference skew the rankings for the year. This is despite the CFP rankings coming out later. Prime example this year is the PAC2 ....USCw etc..this allowed UW and Ore to be top teams all year despite what the final results showed

I'm surprised someone in the media has thrown out " well, it was N. Alabama that hurt FSU's quarterback." So Alabama doesn't deserve to be in. They are looking for any reason to devalue Alabama.

^^^^THIS a million times over!

They're mad and from their biased standpoint, rightfully so. No one under the sun will ever convince them or anyone who already hates Bama that the four that were picked, were the best teams at the end of the season. So why bother?

It comes down to one thing and one thing mostly.... Alabama. I watched many of these commentators BEFORE the results. The past week or so before, these same guys that are spewing hatred and yelling the loudest about this were giddy when it came to talking about Alabama couldn't make it in because too many deserving teams. Danny Kanell was being his more than usual jerky self was trolling us on a CBS roundtable saying that we would have the best seat for the playoffs because we would be watching from our couches.

The thing that outrages them the most was they didn't get their way and now using FSU as a strawman for there argument. Notice that not one single one of them include Texas (a one loss team also) in their ranting. THEY HATE ALABAMA.

This is where I am at. The “world” didn’t care about how I felt last year, or 2019 (getting knocked out of a NY6 bowl though the Michigan Citrus Bowl was a fun match up).

This will all die down in a week.

If anything FSU should be mad at Texas. just going by things that happened in the past, i figured UGA would drop no lower than #4 in the poll and the other three would move up. so Michigan at #1, Washington at #2, FSU at #3 and UGA at #4. essentially Bama just took UGA's spot at #4. Texas was put in over FSU at #3. Don't blame Bama, blame Texas.

I will say one thing in regards to FSU though. the reaction of the Michigan watch party says it all. They were all excited at the fact that they may be playing FSU. When Bama was announced the air went out of the room real quick.

The committee screwed up if they're letting it out that they just "THOUGHT" Florida State couldn't compete without Travis.

They should have stuck their guns and basically come out and said Alabama's resume was better regardless of the fact they had 1 loss and that's why we put them in over FSU.

They made it too wishy washy.

That was the bigger issue to me. I'm NOT comfortable with, "Well, you guys earned it, but with your QB down, well, we're gonna bypass you BUT WE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN YOU if Travis was healthy."

Personally, I don't think that should be part of the discussion AT ALL.

Yes, I agree some teams aren't the same without a main piece; look at 2005 Alabama when Prothro went down forever. We'd be sunk if Milroe got popped, too, and this after most folks here wanted to just give up on him (tbf, I can't say the thought didn't cross my mind).

But they should have gone with, "Look, FSU had a weaker SoS by all metrics than Alabama did, and who really thinks they beat UGA if they play them?" That would be far better than, "Hey, you'd be in but your leader got hurt."

There aren't any early-season polls that pertain to the CFP and that is why the AP poll and any other poll out there need not be recognized on any sports broadcast such as ESPN, CBS, FOX, NBC, or ABC. I know why they do it, ratings, and ratings equals $$$$. But, as you've stated, they have unintended consequences and skew the real rankings.

They were stuck trying to justify other dubious rankings on their part instead of just making a logical argument. They stuck to their guns basically. They probably should have had Washington over Michigan. They shouldn't have had Oregon that high, FSU probably should have already moved down a spot.

But they kind of tried to deflect and it was a bad look.

They should have never had FSU at 4.....they screwed themselves when they kept them there because of that 0 in the loss column.
