Who is Saban's replacement?

If DeBoer is officially announced as the hire, I can almost guarantee the reason Byrne specifically made it a point to say what he said at the beginning about "the rumors" is because DeBoer was THE guy he wanted all along. Just my opinion though.
There were reports that Byrne had his eye on DeBoer for quite a while, perhaps the past couple of years.

The reason that they apparently prefer DeBoer over Dabo is that DeBoer is the better coach, especially in the "new" NCAA football world where NIL and the portal have leveled the recruiting field to be primarily about money to a great degree and put much more of a premium on high-quality "on the field" coaching over recruiters.

IMO, Dabo is not even on their long list, much less the short one.
Dabo is on a list it’s called the Unemployment line. His stubborn self placed him there.

Pure speculation on my part, but I think the list was probably:

1. Kirby - not a chance, probably casual convo only at best
2. Sark - Had to take a shot here, but unlikely he would leave Austin
3. DeBoer
4. Norvell - out of it due to NCAA
5. Lanning/Kiffin - Backup plans

So yeah, realistically, DeBoer was probably the main target all along assuming 1 & 2 were staying put as expected.

maybe why Coach Saban is still around?? if in fact Coach is still going to be involved one way or another as some on here has said. maybe it was a situation of "Look, we really like you as a head coach. Coach Saban has agreed to stay on for the summer to help get your recruiting machine started." i mean seriously, if i came into a job like this and it was known that Coach Saban would "teach" me a few things about recruiting, it would be a no brainer.
I recommend watching the interview with Rece Davis. He basically said he told the players he'd still be around the facilities and such.

I will just take a wait and see approach on DeBoer. It's not Mike Shula, it doesn't superficially look like a bad hire, it's just not the best in my opinion.

We should know pretty soon if the notion that he can recruit just fine and there won't be issues managing the talent comes into play.

He needs to start recruiting guys on the team, he has to start recruiting guys that are committed, and he has to start recruiting guys that aren't on the team and aren't committed.

The results will become apparent pretty rapidly, but if the bleeding starts who knows when it stops.
