Transfer Portal 2023-2024...

I think that, when it comes to re-recruiting current players, I think at some point you must treat it like a commitment from a high school player. “You commit, you’re good. You’re on scholarship. But if YOU shop, WE shop. You may find something you think is better. However we might find something better too.”

“You hit the portal to “peddle your wares” for more NIL dollars, we are immediately going to shop for someone as good or better than you. Remember once you consider the notion of a transfer, it is UP TO US as to the decision to honor that scholarship. So this not without some risk. Welcome to the “real world” young fellow.

I really think this was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of CNS’s decision to retire. I think CNS would have hung on another couple of years had it not been for college football free agency. It flat wore him out.

NIL deals cannot require school attendance or team play. There cannot be a requirement of any kind that the player stay or play. At least, that is what the NCAA has published. We have no idea how the actual agreements read.

True, but an agreement with a local business can require that the athlete makes X amount of public/personal appearances at that business to generate publicity, which means if the athlete leaves the area, they are very likely to violate the terms.

This is the problem with this “system” no rules or regulations or guardrails. Nothing. Someone will sue eventually and maybe that will start the process of getting some change.

Very few NIL deals require anything of the player. That is why the use of NIL in these deals bothers me. What we have is pay for play, not NIL. And everyone knows it. But the contracts are kept under wraps, if they even exist at all.

Yep that was the way it was INTENDED. But we know that it is being used/tied to attendance at a particular school. And the problem is that coaches and collectives don’t care because the reward is greater than the risk. Just look at FSU. A basic slap on the wrist from a feckless NCAA. And so concerned about the school gives the coach an eight year contract extension.
The biggest deterrent to committing violations is not the SEVERITY of the punishment. It is the CERTAINTY of it. Only way it changes is if a new governing body comes about.

I am all for bringing back, “You shop, we shop”. There is ample talent out there that will want to play for Bama and Coach Deboer.

On3 is reporting that in a surprise to nobody, Bond has committed to Texas. I would post a link but I can't disable my ad-blocker enough to satisfy them.

I’m genuinely shocked he didn’t reconsider, knowing who we just hired. Loyalty and school pride mean nothing to these kids.

He'll be utilized plenty at sexat and it looks like he may have a shiny new Lambo to boot.
It still doesn’t make any sense purely from a football perspective. We’re talking about a guy who was already our best WR, and we just hired an offensively-minded head coach, to put it lightly. It’s not like Bond was struggling for playing time.

I was trying to see how many players are leaving and how many new players are coming. Please don't shoot me if I missed someone. Check it and correct it.
