Question: Border crisis looming, what should be done?

Meh, to be honest, this is political grandstanding at its finest. No shots will be fired; it will just be a bunch of back and forth in the legislature with a busier than usual SCOTUS occasionally being dragged into the fray. Lest we forget, this is an election year and optics are everything. It does remind me of the film, "The Second Civil War" which I maintain is one of the best political films ever made. The satire is so thick, you can cut it with a knife.

You didn't see my post the other day. They have a separate Texas militia from the NG...

Florida once had it's own and it was announced a year or two ago that it would be reestablished. I think around 20 or so states have their own. I have doubts about the viability of a Florida Guard considering the FLARNG is understaffed. Lots of job openings in the Guard. Now there will be two organizations chasing the same labor pool. But, there's also the possibility that things will be done better at the local level and the state guard will have better results while the national entity continues to limp along. TBD. 🤷‍♂️

The US Code section which allows it specifies that the militia cannot receive any federal funds at all. The state has to provide all the funds for all the kit and weapons. I wonder if they have main battle tanks. It is Texas, after all, and they have a rep to uphold...

Could be but I doubt it.
The Virginia Defense Force (Virginia's official militia) has no gear at all, except maybe motorola radios.Their mission is to backfill/augment the Virginia National Guard in natural disaster relief if the Virginia National Guard is unavailable (because mobilized and deployed elsewhere) or the situation exceeds the Virginia National Guard's capabilities.
From what I have seen the VDF consists of guys too old or unfit for the National Guard (which probably tells you something about their capabilities).

Abbott isn't actually defying SCOTUS, as I understand things. The order only lifted the stay on Biden's border agents cutting razor wire. There is no order preventing Texas from installing more razor wire. I THINK I'm reading this correctly.

That's just Abbot's opinion. It makes a mockery of the SCOTUS decision and it'll be slapped down again, on appeal...
