There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

another good cop(s) story

Two retired New York City police officers who detained a woman accused of trying to burn down Martin Luther King Jr.’s birth home in Atlanta last week were recognized by their former department over the weekend.
......
The brothers detained U.S. Navy veteran Laneisha Shantrice Henderson, 26, who allegedly doused the home’s front porch with gasoline before trying to light it on fire. She has been charged with second-degree criminal attempt to commit arson and interference with government property and was denied bond during her first appearance hearing Saturday.

Bodycam footage shows police shoot woman 5 times reportedly with her hands up
Edited bodycam footage was released showing Harris County sheriff's deputies in Houston repeatedly shoot at Eboni Pouncy after mistaking her for an intruder inside her friend's apartment.
Yikes! That one guy unloaded an entire magazine and then reloaded. This too much. Firing pretty much blindly through the window. A grand jury is gonna have fun with this one.

I wish I had your confidence.

Some musings:

Is anyone who has a gun now a target of police?

Even when they are not pointing the gun at police?

Even when the circumstances (someone knocking on the door at night) might cause a reasonable person to grab their firearm for protection?

Do just black people need to be worried? (I think she is black)

I know it's not just black people - only half serious. A white older gentleman was shot by police in similar circumstances a while back when they showed up to (I believe) the wrong house at night.

Shooting people for exercising their rights in their own homes at night does seem excessive.

Changing magazines does not bother me in the least if the shooting is justified in the first place.

I didn't see anyone with their hands up. Goodness, one of the LEO's unloaded through the window. I don't have an issue with that if he/she had a reason for shooting. Hopefully, there's more to this than what we can see in the bodycam video.

This kind of shooting happens a lot these days.

I hope I’m right about a grand jury, but I may not be. I agree with you that people in gteee own homes don’t seem safe. Shooting through the window in that fashion is absolutely negligent in my opinion.

I just mentioned the magazine because it struck me that he emptied the whole magazine at least 15 rounds right through the window with no idea if a child or another person was in the room. Dry wall isn’t stopping those bullets.

Yeah, drywall isn't doing a thing.

My take:

If a gun is pointed at police - fire away through the window.

Please do take the time to aim to minimize danger to others. (5/15+ shots hitting their target is very poor shooting at close range)

That should always be the case.

But if someone is simply holding a gun and you don't know who they are and they do not present a clear and imminent danger....

then the police have a duty to hold their fire.

Many LEOs have a belief that it's better to be judged by twelve than to be carried by six. When you add in light training and terrified LEOs, you get what we had up here, when a young LEO burst into a house where a man was suicidal, holding a gun to his own head, yelled at two senior officers to stand down and blew away the victim's head with a shotgun blast, within seconds of entering the room. He's still in prison, appealing, but the city decided to pay for his defense...

I remember that case. It was absolutely crazy.
