Bryce Young and Carolina's Struggles

He was put in the worst situation possible. If I’m him I try to get a trade out of there. Carolina is a dumpster fire even with a new owner

I agree to begin with…but as I stated earlier Carolina made SEVERAL improvements across the board in the off-season. I LOVE Bryce Young. He’s an Alabama Legend…but he should be doing better this year. So far he’s been terrible. No other way to put it.

Unfortunately you are correct. BY has lost all confidence and is playing horribly...I hope he can recover at some point but right now all he's got is a lot of money. He looks shell shocked and I cannot imagine what it will take for him to recover.

Look, no one said that he was a bad college QB. He was great at Alabama. Should have won at least one championship. But the NFL requires a lot more. And the word going into the draft, and which continues to be said, is that he does not see players as open until they are already open. In other words, he can't see the field - can't see how players running certain routes against certain defenses will become open at certain times and locations.

Yep, the windows in the NFL are extremely small.

Bryce and Mac were thrown into starting roles they just weren't ready for. Mac had a good first season, but that stuff they did in New England ruined him.

Both these guys have confidence problems now. They got thrown into the meat grinder.

Impossible situation, let’s hope the kid can get out of there healthy and doesn’t end up like Andrew Luck.

Most NFL teams are run by morons.

Bryce Young can improve and it won't make a difference because his OL can't protect him and his WRs can't get open. How in the world is anyone suggesting Bryce Young needs to improve as if that is going to make one difference in his current situation?

And how is he even going to have a legit shot at improving when he's running for his life every other play? Oh he's struggling to even hit open WRs when there is no pressure? Of course he is! He has been wrecked.

I feel for a lot of these guys because most NFL teams are run extremely poorly.

Will add, his height may be an issue in terms of having to create throwing angles taller QBs don't have to worry about, but there's nothing he can do about that and has worked around it at Bama with similarly sized OLs.

Height is definitely an issue.

You can see how he dealt with it at Bama:

See that quick head drop at the end of the drop back?
He's taking a quick peek around the lineman.

I saw him do that plenty of times while at Bama.

They showed some clips of him yesterday in the pocket kinda creeping up on his tip-toes to see better.

Although I thought those guys were pretty hard on him, they are correct that when he does that he can't really use his the ground and get more velocity on his throws.

I love Bryce for what he did here. But some of his throws have been really really bad. I would say he has looked considerably worse than Mac ever looked in New England

Carolina never should have sold off the franchise to acquire him. He is literally not physically capable of carrying a franchise, and MOST QBs would not be either.

Bryce needed to go to a franchise with an established OL, with good WRs, and an established HC. That's why I say most franchises are run by morons.

I was happy Alabama finally got a #1 overall NFL draft pick, but it was a curse. Hopefully Bryce can get traded to a good franchise with his health intact (mental as well physical).

These QBs come into the league unpolished and in need of proper development but are somehow expected to be the savior out the gate and if they’re not, the organization throws them in the trash.

In Bryce’s case, they surrounded him with nothing but mid and expected him to make something out of that.

Yogi Berra once said "Ninety percent of the game is half mental". He's mentally destroyed at this point and this benching will not help, but at the same time, he needs to put himself back together mentally the rest of the season. He should get another shot down the road to redeem himself.

I hope Bryce is successful in the NFL, but in all honesty I don't think he will be. I also think there is a lack of elite QB talent in the league right now. Particularly, when you compare it to where the league was 12-15 years ago with Brady, Rodgers, Brees, the Mannings, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Ryan, and even guys like Warner winding down his career and Wilson starting his. In that time period, you could name 10 really good starting QBs, but you'd be hard pressed to name 10 really good starting QBs right now.
Just look at the top 10 picks from recent drafts that have already been let go by their drafting teams. Mac, Fields, Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, Pickett, I’m sure I’m missing some.

I pay almost zero attention to pro ball. But I recall, just as Young was drafted, seeing one of the shows where two NFL Defensive Linemen and one retired NFL D lineman were talking about Young.

They were figuratively licking their chops. They said he was a great college QB, but he's too small for the NFL and would get clobbered.

Since I don't watch pro ball ... have those D Linemen been correct? You tell me....

Bryce Young needed to sit for a couple of years behind a solid PRO QB. Problem is Carolina traded a haul and then selected him #1, which means he had to play regardless if he is ready or not. What Carolina has done to Young is borderline criminal imo. I'm not saying Bryce should not be shielded from blame, because he has not played well at all but Carolina has not put Bryce is the best position to succeed and that is on then. So when they move on from Bryce, I hope Young find success with a better franchise.

"Bryce Young signed a 4 year , $37,955,071 contract with the Carolina Panthers, including $24,603,688 signing bonus, $37,955,071 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $9,488,768." I would sit back and learn as much as I could and cash my weekly check. You can't get clobbered or get a concussion sitting on the bench.
