Georgia Week- what are your thoughts?

I think we are going to start out slow on Defense because it seems to take us a bit to catch up to game speed, but I think by the 2nd quarter we are going to lock' em down. I feel like our offense has the potential to score every time we get the ball. UGA isn't the UGA of the past from what I've seen.

Bama 35 UGA 17

Kind of like how we would be under Saban, I think Georgia is most dangerous when the narrative going into a game is that they are underperforming. With that said, Georgia hasn't faced a top 10 team in a true road game since they played us in 2020, which they lost, but that was in front of a 1/3 of full capacity. Prior to that, it was Kentucky in 2018, which they won, but it was Kentucky. Their last true top ten road game in a very difficult environment was Auburn in 2017, which they got blown out.

Does any of that mean anything? I don't know, other than they haven't been tested on the road in a really long time.

Interesting. That at the very least means their OL and Beck, despite having experience, probably have not really had to handle the atmosphere they are going to walk into on Saturday at least not while also facing a quality opponent. That can only be good for us.

I hope so. Georgia has had the luxury of not having to play difficult games in uncomfortable places over the last few years. They've taken advantage of that to their credit, for the most part. So this will be very different for, not only their players, but the coaching staff as well.

How was it trickery? Our line dominated theirs.
I didn't say trickery. Fluky is the word I used. But you are referring to the main thing I was thinking. Our OL showed up and showed out in this game unlike at any other time last year. Remember how they looked against AU? But a week later they looked like a different team.

It wasn't luck or trickery but somehow we managed to play our best game of the year in that game but then turned around against UM and looked confused again.

Iirc, in all but two of our many wins over georgia the past 15 years, we were playing from behind, many times deep into the second half

How we won a few of those games I'll never know. I think having the GOAT on the sideline was a huge factor. But Georgia looked like the better team in some of those games for a good majority until we forged a comeback.

Brady was just citing conventional wisdom that it would be better to play with a lead than to get in a hole. I think all of us would agree. That doesn't mean teams that get behind can't make a comeback. We know better.

That is where I am interested to see some differences in Saban vs Deboer. I have no doubt that Alabama hired a great coach in Deboer, but how will he do in this type of game if playing from behind?

In big games, CNS played it conservatively. Some might argue too conservatively. The team also played tight in some of those games. LSU and Georgia are the two teams we'd often do this against.

I mean, who are we to argue with what he did because it usually worked out, but I'm looking to see how CKD coaches in games like this.

The one thing I'd like to see us do more in these types of games is come out swinging with fast starts instead of feeling the other team out and having to often come from behind.

It'll be interesting to see how his style compares to CNS's.

Milroe really scares me in this game. I would normally say that he'll be fine if they can't bring pressure consistently, but they didn't get much pressure last year, and he was shaky for a lot of the game, so I really have no clue what we're gonna see from him. I do think he'll have to play better than he did in the SEC title game for us to win. That kind of performance just won't be good enough, most of the time, to beat a top 5 team, unless we're just able to run the ball successfully and consistently all game. That hasn't really seemed to be our MO so far this season, so I really think Milroe is going to have to play well for us to win

This will be the best game of the season. The two best rosters going head to head. We will overcome some adversity and pull it out in the end. Dawgs are going to get humbled a bit which is what they need to roll into Austin, where I predict them to take out the froghorns. They will get a second chance at us in the SECCG.

This is a really tough test early for us. If we were playing in Georgia, I might give the Bulldogs a slight edge. I hope we blow them out, but I see this being a close nail biter type of game.

As much as we complain about deep throws, I wouldn't mind if we took a shot on the very first play.
I will go out on a limb and say that any Georgia secondary player who gets beat deep will immediately have their “get out of vehicular manslaughter charges” card taken from them on the sidelines.

Unless Kirby has just totally gone bonkers, you make the offensive line prove they can hold up against the rush long enough to make Jalen prove he can hurt you with the hot route throws. Make Jalen prove he can decipher the pressure packages and not get baited into one of those Texas interceptions. Make Jalen be patient, but most importantly, make Jalen play quarterback to beat you.

If we can keep scheming plays that take advantage of Milroes athletic attributes we will win. Our lines are better both ways and our skills folks are better. Their secondary is probably better. Our kicking game is better. We have HF advantage….

We were trying to fit Milroe into a conventional ground and pound offense against Texas. That’s not what we are doing this year.

He was still baited into throwing two terrible interceptions that game. Regardless of what is going on offensively, those passes should’ve never been thrown.

Since you mentioned the Elephant in the room, this is the game that everybody has been pointing to concerning JM.

We've kinda gotten good Milroe against an overpowered WKU team, struggling JM against a fiesty USF team and real good JM against Wisky.

I'd argue JM's game against Wisky was his best ever when the spotlight was really shining brightly. Arguably, until Wisky he was 2-2 in the games that mattered the most. (wins against LSU and Georgia and losses against UT and UM all last year).

So which JM do we get against Georgia? If we use him like we did against Wisky and LSU last year, I like our chances. If the UT, Auburn, UM JM shows up I don't.

BTW, I'm not putting it all on JM. Matter of fact, I think the worst thing he could do is try to win the game with his arm, which I'm sure he'd love to do. But the best JM is the JM that uses his legs and allows them to compliment his arm. And he also has two stud RBs that can help him out too.

Of course, whether JM is his best or struggles largely depends on the OL that shows up. Let's hope the Wisky game was the one they got it figured out.
