BREAKING trump wins, why?

All this "I love democracy, but the public is stupid" crying is amusing. The tribalists will never do any self-reflection. The same crowd that witnessed Biden crap himself publicly for years maintained he was sharp as a tack and just had a stutter ... until it was too late. Undeserved hubris and thinking inside the bubble cost the Dems everything.

I think the grocery prices were a convenient excuse to vote for Trump. Let's say the next 4 years the grocery prices increase even more. Do you honestly think all the people that voted Republican in 2024 are going to flip to Democrat because their eggs have gone up?

Nobody is flipping to Democrat next time unless it's a White Man that's running.... that much is clear.

Because he went against a horribly ran campaign.

I know we have a few posters that will never let anything be said on the lines “Blame the Democrats” but after losing twice to a man like Trump… how can you not?

The truth is that we are firmly a center right electorate. And I’m sure I’m going to get some random poll that suggests we are progressive or that young people matter in an election but the cold hard truth is that the people who vote are old, white, and religious not young, educated, and progressive. The same people who were energized to vote for Reagan, Bush, and Bill are the ones that are energized to get to the voting booth to vote on the economy, past fears, and for Israel.

In short… the Democrats made two fatal mistakes. 1) they believed that the midterms showed that abortion was a major national issue that could give them the White House and basically based 2024 around it. And 2) they allowed Biden to run unopposed with no back up plan. For the latter it was obvious to anyone that wasn’t so drunk on the DNC punch that Biden was going to have trouble winning for the past two years. There should have been a plan B and potentially a Plan C. Pushing a bad candidate in from 2020 unopposed on short notice was not ever going be a good strategy. And anyone that was being realistic knew that. I’m not shocked that Trump won. I’m shocked how easily he did it.

TBH I think the Democrats would do better in presidential elections by cutting the progressives out of the party and going back to the right like they did after the Reagan dynasty. But they have expanded to the left every election because they thought 2008 was a sign of the future of American political belief.

This is very well said. I would add that I offered to vote for Kamala if someone (here, on FB, and in face-to-face conversations) could convince me that she deserved my vote. All I got is anti-Trump rhetoric. I responded, "Don't tell me why Trump is bad; I'm not voting for him. Tell me why Kamala is good." Never got an answer. 🤷‍♂️

If Kamala's campaign had been more substantive instead of the "you can't vote for Trump, so vote for me" nonsense, she would have had my vote. Not taking responsibility for all the damage inflation caused and passing the buck, claiming the people that pay the lion's share of taxes aren't paying their fair share, etc. ... it's the same tired playbook. She's either dumb or dishonest. Either way, she didn't earn my vote.

Why?

I think it's obvious.

People chose Trump's vision for the future of America, in whole.

Mass deportations of legal on top of illegal immigrants? Check.

Their daughters dying due to lack of access to basic life-saving care? Check.

Complete loss of a free press to be as crappy as they desire? Check.

Books removed from libraries because some disagree with the ideas expressed within them? Check.

Protesters being shot in the streets and the military being turned on citizens? Check.

Prosecution of political enemies just because? Check.

But wait! There's more!

I'm not going through it all here, but there's much more.

And the American people said "Hell, yeah! Gimme some of that!".

Anything else cited is just a convenient excuse to relieve the conscience.

The last paragraph is indeed spot on, IMHO. Slightly right of center, at least in my lifetime, describes the American electorate for the most part.

This. Grocery prices were this year's "but her emails!" excuse.

They will not hold Republicans' feet to the fire when they destroy (again) a vibrant economy. Just as they muted all the dementia talk when Biden left the race. We are left with a corrupt, valueless, demented old man.

Honestly he was elected because of hyperbole like this.

But everything you say applies to trump too. Voters were triggered by social issues and that worked in trumps favor, bigly.

One thing I'm seeing all over the place is the question: "how could women do this to themselves?" People seriously overestimated the abortion issue as it relates to the female vote. There were always going to be consequences to this because:

A: There are a lot of pro-life women. To dismiss them as if they don't exist is one sure-fire way to lose their vote.

B: The whole "men playing women's sports" issue is a cause than many women have been highly concerned about, but again, dismissed by the balloon-heads on TV.

I get it, abortion is a major issue for a lot of people, but clearly there was more at stake than this for voting women across the country. Treating them as single-minded morons wasn't a masterclass move.

Right. I'm criticizing tribalists on both sides. Had Trump lost there would be no self-reflection that maybe their policies were out of touch. It would have been the same "voters are stupid" silliness we're seeing the left claim.
Here’s some pictures of a church in Birmingham, just Dems behaving the way they accuse Repubs of behaving:

Both parties have convinced themselves that they are the “good guys”. There are no good guys.

Democrats chose to run on the awfulness of Trump rather than communicating sound solutions to the nation’s problems as perceived by everyday Americans. Feeding their family and having a secure personal future are always going be the primary motivations for people in our country. These things were of such great concern that they chose to hope for the best when it comes to Trump’s autocratic intentions, which for most people are just words that they don’t feel will affect them.

Republicans emphasized the fears, discomfort, and stress of the populace, stating (without much substance) that they could change things. That was enough to beat the Democratic message, which seemed to be that they’d only offer more of the same - and that people should be satisfied with that.
