So what actually happened on the 4th down from the 50 in the ASU game? They didn't explain it on the highlights on ABC just now. They said the ball has to hit something and it didn't hit the ground. Well did it go into orbit? Anybody actually watch the game and can explain what the ruling was on the field to give BYU 1 second?

I turned it off because I thought it was over, but it was sort of like that Texas-Nebraska play back in 2009. They didn't really show the ball hitting the ground, but the QB undeniably threw it too short and soon based on the angle I saw.

Well, no - it didn't land on the field. It landed in the stands.

It's a bit surprising they were able to get a good replay view to be able to say there was time left since it landed no where near the field of play...
