Ominous Signs Ahead

Not sure you can blame the OC when there was countless plays he called with guys running wide open in the middle of the field. I would have tried to run more but they were stacking the box pretty well and then playing safeties over the top to take away the deep ball. Sheridan was calling crossing routes 15 yard down field which is the right play call but the quarterback needs to throw it there. The play calling was fine if Milroe see it and throws the ball. Then they either have to slide linebackers back some so you can run or move safeties up and that opens the deep ball. He just doesn’t see the middle of the field well and Michigan exploited it.
Jalen Hurts would have eaten Michigan alive today

I was very critical of the defense (particularly 3rd and 4th down) early in the season. However, this defense did get significantly better at getting off the field as season progressed.

I chalk the early issues with them getting comfortable with a different scheme under Womack. The defense played well enough to win versus Oklahoma, Tennessee and Michigan today.
Totally agree. The defense held up their end of the bargain this year. They had a few rough moments, but overall pleased with the development and adjustment to the new scheme.

I don't know. I was hopeful for the D until they played Oklahoma. The D gave up 257 yards rushing against Oklahoma with a QB who would not pass it. Yet they had 5-6 guys in coverage most of the day. We never adjusted. I can't explain that. Sure Milroe turned the ball over like today, but OU ran it for 5 ypc. Today was much better than that, but it's not like Michigan is an offensive juggernaut. What below average offense they do have was mostly not even playing in this game. Orji was 2/3 for 2 yards.

Yeah, the defense was good enough to win with..............mulltiple fumbles, poor playcalling and ineptness did Bama in
When you put it all in perspective, the defense played great. They gave up 6 points when Michigan didn't start with the ball in field goal range. This is the 3rd straight game in a row that the defense has balled out, and Milroe has given the ball to the opposing team every chance he got. What's that, like 12 Milroe turnovers in the past 3 games? The defense can only do so much.

I actually think that this defense was statistically better than any since about 2017.
I wonder how many people would change their tune if Womack said "I prefer running a 3-4 over under pattern match defense, however due to the type of offense we face we need to be in nickel for most of the game" i mean the 4-2-5 is really nothing more than a more aggressive nickel defense. Other than the Vanderbilt game I thought the defense was pretty solid.

The defense gave up 17 points to OK.

The offense had -4 points on the day.

Yup. Vandy was a catastrophe on defense, but it was a real outlier.

We didn't stop Vandy and they built up snaps and TOP and we were just gassed at the end.

Our scheme was ungood for them.

But other than that, they played fairly well. Honestly, the DL is not suited to Wommack's scheme, the LBs were solid but I didn't feel any of them were dominant, and we had a patchwork of transfers, freshmen, and some guys who are average SEC guys in the secondary. I think we will continue to see improvement if Wommack stays too.

Here goes my two cents:

I have supported this coaching staff and been excited about the changes this year. I knew there would be growing pains. I expected a few losses. However, with a full season now to review, I do not feel good about the new regime. I know that he has recruited well, but I do not like what I have seen on the field from Coach DeBoer. I am getting STRONG DuBose/Shula vibes from this guy. A reluctance to make a change when one is needed, confused looks on the sidelines on negative play after negative play, undisciplined play from players, with no reaction.

For those fans stating we need to run the ball just stop. This offensive line has been horrible for at least two seasons. The run game simply isn’t there consistently. Our only chance was the passing game, and we have a QB that is scrambling under pressure almost every play. When he did have time, he was indecisive and unable to make reads. I truly hope that was his last game. I appreciate what Milroe accomplished, but it is time to tear everything down and rebuild.

Lastly, these coordinators are not the answer. Womack held his own today, but this scheme will not work at Alabama. Sheridan is woefully inadequate. On the first drive of the game, Bama moved to midfield on the PASSING game. What did we then do? Two straight running plays for zero yards and a stalled drive. At a time when most premier programs have ex-NFL coaches at the coordinator positions, or at least senior college level coordinators, Bama is severely lacking in this department. Ability to play chess and not checkers in the booth is required. Sheridan was lost all year. He actually made a good call on the screen at the end of the game, and never went back to it despite the fact that Michigan continued to send max pressure. I hope this staff can turn it around, but, unfortunately, I feel it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. If someone in the know can give me evidence to the contrary—I need it! We all need to hear something positive at this time if anyone can please share it.

How is that worse? Milroe's gone now. If he was the main thing holding us back, then we'll win the SEC next year with everything we have coming back. That's a good thing, is it not?
I believe it will be worse next year. An unproven QB in SEC play will take at least one year to break in. The thing is, can DeBoer win the games he’s supposed to win? If he drops 2 or three next year while being a heavy favorite, I believe he will be fired in this NIL, “What have you done for me lately?” environment.

I take offense to the premise that this Oline is horrible. If any one of them jumps in the portal, teams would line up to sign them. And I don’t put it in the Oline coach either. CKD had a vision for the line, then changed mid stream. His recruiting changed as well The kids we signed are destined to be 320+ before they leave, even Carroll. Remeber, a large faction of the fanbase wanted Seth gone( I didn’t) , he goes to OSU and wins the Remington.
We need to choose a path and see it through As far as offensive philosophy goes.
The OL can’t make the QB read defenses, or be accurate with the ball. The OL got a ton of heat this year because certain fans simply aren’t going to criticize Milroe…ever.
