BREAKING Ty Declaring for NFL Draft

Imo it means Mendoza is clearly viewed as the #1 pick no matter who has the selection.

Ty seems to be viewed as the #2 QB but the perceived risk factor from injuries and a limited sample of healthy game film doesn’t have any teams clamoring to trade up and take him early in the 1st.

It’s looking like Arizona is the main team that wants him but they could get him in the 2nd round or if they get a bit antsy take him late in the 1st.

But my original comment was based on an interview saying so many teams had Ty rated higher.

That’s just not true or other teams would be looking to take him even over a need pick because you don’t pass up a potential franchise QB in the draft in a QB driven league.

Mendoza is viewed as a Franchise QB (could be wrong) and Ty is viewed as a gamble with a low buy in but a potential high payoff.

Yep, this is my take as well. I've watched enough draft shows, interviews by those who have "sources with the teams", and it seems like Ty isn't considered QB#2 because of talent level, but because of lack of experience and success when propped up against Mendoza's experience and success. For example, if Alabama would have went on and won the NC and Ty would have had a great playoff performance, he would be the overall #1 pick in this draft. Because he would have at least checked the box of "what has he done?". Whereas, since Ty (and Alabama) didn't have very high success in the playoffs, Ty couldn't check the box of "won a NC and MVP". So box 1 of "Playing experience" AND box 2 of "what has he done?" can't be checked.

I think Ty being able to process the game at an NFL level is probably what has Dan O excited, and truth be told... It's an impressive trait that many QBs don't get until they're given the chance to play a while in the actual NFL. I mean Bryce had that trait.

But I think Ty has less ability to process than say a Bryce after the snap as he can prior to the snap. Plus doesn't use mobility very well, would take some bad sacks leading to game changing fumbles, doesn't have a strong arm, doesn't have down field accuracy, etc.

I would hesitate to take the guy R1, unless I just really needed a QB and could spare not taking better talent. Seems that will fit several teams this year. Congrats to him

However, in
BY was in a league of his own with ability to process, although Ty isn't far behind.

Like others have said, watch the Gruden segment on him, and all the rest of that stuff just isn't really true of a healthy TS. He was pretty mobile until he got hurt (which was him running downfield AFTER avoiding a sack). After the injuries kinda stacked up it certainly impacted his play...

Arizona Cardinals had Ty at their facility today working him out. I know there are several draft "experts" who think Ty will "slip" into the second round, but I don't think so. Once draft night gets here, teams who desperately need a QB very well may feel a ton of pressure when they pick and Ty is sitting there to whether to pass on him or not. Because once you pass on him, odds are, you're not getting him the next go round....except for one team. I can legitimately see the Browns, Jets, Cardinals, or Steelers pulling the trigger on Ty in the first round. I'll also throw my "hot take"/"BOLD prediction" pick. Keep an eye on the Eagles late in round 1. The rumblings of the organization not being completely sold on Jalen Hurts isn't just make believe. Granted, it is a long shot and probably won't happen, but if there's a "shocker pick" of the first round, it could be the Eagles picking Ty Simpson with their #23 pick in round one.

Name the QBs in NFL history who have had only 1 year of starting experience in college, shorter than 6'2", with good but not elite arm strength, good but not elite mobility and an injury history in that only year as a starter who worked out in the NFL?

I am NOT saying Ty will fail in the NFL. He may make it and I actually do think he may be underrated right now. I really like Ty and think if things break right he can be at least a decent NFL QB.

I just also see why some NFL teams may be hesitant to take him. He carries some red flags. But so did Shough last year and he at least flashed at times his rookie year. So none of this is to say he can't or won't work out in the NFL. Just that he does carry some obvious risk

Sorry, while I understand how a back injury or whatever injuries he had stops his mobility.... I also brought up the fact that his mobility took him to take him hits that he shouldn't have been taking down the field. Instead of sliding he would literally take the hit on purpose.... Potentially leading to the injuries. That's a mental decision.

After the injuries the decision to take bad sacks instead of just getting rid of the ball or going down is not a physical issue, it's a processing decision making one that led to huge turnovers multiple times.
