Happy New Year TideFans. Hope everyone is healthy, happy, and prosperous.

These last 3-4 seasons have been frustrating as all get out. 21-22 felt like we wasted the most prolific passer in program history with ineptitude at multiple spots around him. And 23-24 was a roller coaster I never want to see us on again.

All that said, I'm excited about the direction we're heading. First thing we have to do is recalibrate our expections. Realize that what Nick Saban did here was completely abnormal. Those of us who have been in here at least since the Dubose/Fran/Price/Shula days can appreciate that fact. Also, know that college football in January 2007 (when Saban took over) and January 2025 are WORLDS apart. As challenging as it was when Saban took over, he had some very important constants with regard to roster. In today's CFB, the only thing constant is change. It's a delicate balance.

And along those same lines, with the expanded CFP, we'll be in and in contention more years than not.

For everyone bashing CKD for not pulling the plug on this year's QB, keep in mind that CNS had every opportunity to do it permanently and he didn't. And I don't subscribe to the idea that the guys behind him could've done any worse. There was clearly some other things at play, but no need to rehash or even harp on that now. Onward.

Going forward, expect the offense to utilize all of the playmakers at our disposal and not be able to be shut down by keying in on one player. Regardless of who the signal caller is, I think we'll be able to take advantage of whatever weaknesses defenses have. With regards to our play caller, know that just as the defense was CNS's no matter who the DC was, this offense is CKD's, no matter who is calling the plays.

Outside of Booker, our entire OL should be back. Traditionally (the past 15 years at least), we do well when we have significant continuity up front on offense.

Very quietly, Kane Wommack and his defense found a groove after the Vandy game. Most of the players on that defense weren't recruited to play in that scheme. So one full year in the defense for the guys coming back (like LT Overton and James Smith) and the injection of talent recruited specifically for this defense (Noah Carter, Duke Johnson, etc.), I'm excited to see where we go from here.

Chin up, friends. A-Day is 3 months away. RTR

The fact most of our OLINE will be back isn't reassuring. The OLINE was a disappointment all year.
Our O-line wasn't too adept at pass blocking this season and if DeBoer installs a more pass oriented offense next season we'll have problems unless they show sudden improvement.

The line was fine. They have no control over a QB turning into a statue at the top of his drop instead of climbing the pocket, sliding his protection the wrong way, not knowing his hot routes, not knowing how to diagnose defenses pre or post snap, etc. etc. etc.

We're about to have a 2nd year in a row that we have a Top 10 pick off of the OL. Bad OLs don't produce top 10 picks.

No, the line was not fine. Not even close. I love the post, but this is just not true.

Yet we could never establish a consistent, effective running game because of several players who were swinging doors every other snap. I watched it all year. Block one play, penatration the next. Rinse and repeat that for the entire season.

I think a whole offseason is just what the doctor ordered for this new staff. I mean, it has been a four alarm fire since they arrived in Tuscaloosa trying to get to know players, feel their way around their new situation and try to implement their philosophy with players that don't all fit in...plus, trying to replace a living legend. Yea, time to take a breath, reflect, regroup, adjust and hit the ground running with a new plan in the Spring. We gonna be ok but not dominant for some time to come.
