News Article: Alabama is more dialed in this off-season.

I know we had more than a handful of posters who questioned those on the board who brought "inside information" from the locker room about locker room dynamics being an issue. Well, this quote is directly from a player's mouth and he's not talking about Saban leaving or players transferring when he says "A lot of stuff happened last year"...

I would expect it to feel quite different. The shock of CNS retiring has somewhat been absorbed. The exodus of players through the transfer portal has slowed considerably. After a year, the players should have a good feel for the new staff and what is expected from them. And all of the promises/commitments/whatever in response to helping hold together the roster is over. IOW, this should be a fairly normal offseason. Last year definitely was not.

Coach Deboer had a shaky transition year, but, from here on out this is his team & has had the time too implement his way of doing things..

The results on the football field, good or bad, is all on this coaching staff from here on out..

It's easy to say this "talk" doesn't matter, but if things are to change it has to start somewhere. We'll know if it's true when we see the discipline on the field next fall!

Man, it's depressing to hear guys talk about getting serious only for them list things that you would assume were already being done. These are the lowest bars to clear. SMH

Cubelic told a story of how back in 2017 Pruitt was getting frustrated with the players because of their inability to watch film for more than 10 minutes at a time before needing a break. That is mind-boggling to think kids these days can't even pay attention for 10 minutes.

I posted elsewhere that I was temporarily impressed with the "shirts tucked in" phase last year. Sadly it did not last long.

Great teams are forged while noone is looking. It is always the low-prestige, continuous behaviors that matter the most - workouts in the rain, not flaunting wealth, respect for your teammates, coaches, the game and your opponent, no jaw-jaw or celebrations. Just hard work, all the time. If this is what they intend, and it lasts the season, why, I might be optimistic.

Alot of this boils down to individual commitment. You got the star rating, you signed with a major program, you probably got a big paycheck. But all of that is temporary. If you want to succeed you've got to become a player no one wants to face and doing that is hard. I'm glad they are showing up to workouts on time. Attention to detail is good, but if earning a starting spot is the highest goal on your scorecard you'll leave Alabama with the same cloths you wore the day you arrived. One example of many: Marcel Dareus arrived as an uncelebrated 3 star DL from Huffman. By this guys second season nobody wanted to see him across from them. No talk, no press, just stone cold domination.

Well, at least he is acknowledging that there was a problem. It would be more disturbing if he wasn't...

It's going to take getting kids that are wired a certain way to get the culture back to what it was in the early years of the dynasty under Saban. As much as Saban set the culture, ultimately the types of players he brought in kept the standard up. It's why in one of Sabans early speeches he said the key to a successful team is "knowing which players to put on the bus and which players to get off the bus."

In today's NIL world and just overall general culture, those types of players are getting harder and harder to find.

Sad that things slipped that much. Glad to see it is being addressed.
I hate using this analogy because of the fRAN era, but when you let go of the rope, everything falls fast.

It's not surprising things go so bad. What's surprising is we still went 9-4. That speaks to what sheer talent alone will get you. Because that's about all we went on last season.
