UGA paying high schoolers to stay committed

My wife was listening to Bill Bubba Bussey’s podcast and he had Herb Winches on. Herb made a comment about Kirby Smart saying they were paying upwards of $20k per month to HS recruits to keep them committed to UGA. This is truly idiotic.
That’s a lot of dough. I assume this is $20k across all recruits. I wonder how much each one gets as a “down payment” for future NIL money?

I highly doubt its just Georgia doing something like this and it probably speaks more to the collective of top tier teams in terms of money and budget.

i cant even imagine how much this all changes day by day as schools are bidding with each other over players

and I know for certain that Georgia is not spending nearly as much as some other programs are like Miami and Oregon

For all that is holy, our education dollars and priorities are so grossly misplaced...

Is that not stretching the bounds of NIL just a bit? It's one thing to pay them once they sign, but paying a high schooler to keep his commitment. The college sports world has truly gone way off the deep end.

one thing that the state of Georgia is doing that is good is cracking down on the transfer rules for high school. One year ineligible for all transfers. So some super power high school team can't just go get a super star one year guy that rents an apartment and wins them a title

The word "commitment" has totally lost meaning when it comes to college sports. I hate it when guys flip from us to somewhere else and I hate it when they flip to us. It shows a lack of character, commitment, and honor. I realize we're dealing with 16-18 y.o. athletes with lots of uncle pookies around them, but the adults in power positions are the core crux of the problem.

I'm very hopeful now that the lawsuit is settled, that the PTB can come up with a system that makes some of these idiotic consequences of having no consequences for corruption go away.
