You do not have to be a US citizen to serve in the US military. Indeed many immigrants will serve in the military to accelerate their citizenship applications.
I can't say why this son of a serving US soldier was deported.
When I served, In the Eighties, we had quite a few citizens of the Phillipines serving in the USNavy

Nazis did this in 1930s Germany as well, but I'm fearmongoring when I bring this up.

You folks arguing about masks are missing the bigger issue. No uniform, no identifying markings of any kind, no badges. Wearing a mask is the least of the problems here. Like one of the witnesses stated, they didn't know it was an arrest or a hate crime.

I might be able to come to terms with wearing a mask and no name tag, but they should all be in uniforms with a badge on the front and very clearly visible ICE markings on the side and back. There should be no doubt in any witness's mind that they are law enforcement. They should never pull up in unmarked vans, jump out, force someone into that van, and drive off like we saw in the video of that college student earlier in the year. That should never be the MO of law enforcement in this country.

Their actions resemble what we see in the movies from underground criminal organizations, not respectable law enforcement doing their civil duty.
With the protests and U.S. Citizens interfering with ICE enforcement officers performing their duty, I can see why they would wear plain clothes, use surprise tactics. I guess it’s all in the perspective. These are the same agents that served under previous administrations, Trump didn’t fire them all and bring in new people. They are hard working Law enforcement officers that want to do a good job, enforcing immigration laws. . Painting them in a Gestapo light is just wrong. But, I guess that’s where we are on this board .

Here's the thing--in the case posted earlier, the victim's family said that they thought it was a kidnapping. So let's say the next time ICE pulls this stunt, they pull it on a US citizen with a legal weapon, who feels threatened, and shoots the ICE agent.

What happens at that trial? Will you be singing the praises of Stand Your Ground?

You don't agree with the Gestapo characterization, and that's fine. But whether or not you hear jackboots, ICE going around with no uniform or identification is a tragedy waiting to happen.

100% would.

I fully understand why they might be trying to fly under the radar, but that's a double-edged sword, and were I on a jury I'd be hard-pressed to convict someone for shooting an agent that was unidentifiable...

The situation is ripe for a tragic misunderstanding.
I understand ICE's tactical need to make the approach with non-uniformed officers in unmarked cars, but I would say somebody in ICE gear and his ID out better be close behind. Maybe the first guy out of the vehicle is in plain clothes, but the second better be in uniform.
Maybe the officers themselves are too enamored with the "cool guy" aspect of operating in plain clothes but somebody is going to get shot. It won't be so cool then.

BREAKING: Three federal & TX law enforcement sources tell me an active shooter with a rifle & tactical gear ambushed Border Patrol agents as they arrived at a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, TX this morning. Local police and federal agents returned fire, killing him. I’m told this was a purposeful ambush/attack against federal agents and a press conference is planned for later this morning. No federal agents injured. Im told a McAllen police officer may have been shot, but is in stable condition.

Photos via law enforcement sources.

We can debate the masking thing all day long, but lets remember that federal agents are putting their lives and health on the line to carry out their mission.

Take Off the Mask, ICE
The federal government should prohibit the wearing of masks by ICE agents and require them to properly identify themselves.

From 2011 to 2013, I commanded the New York City Police Department’s 6th Precinct, which covers Greenwich Village. We had a team of plainclothes officers who went out looking for serious crimes in progress. Sometimes they worked out of a dilapidated unmarked van that looked like the one driven by the villain in The Silence of the Lambs. When things were slow, the team would arrest people who had slunk off from Bleecker Street to smoke weed on Minetta Lane. The sergeant who led these officers had come down from the Bronx, and he thought there was a certain justice in holding the Village’s nightlife crowd to the same standard we held Black teenagers in Kingsbridge Heights.

One evening in 2012, the team noticed a woman smoking in the shadows and decided to make an arrest. The officers placed her in handcuffs, led her to the van, and opened its back doors. At the other end of the cargo bay, a burly man sat on a milk crate in the dark, waiting. The woman went weak in the knees, her eyes filled with panic, and she groaned. At that point the sergeant realized that the prisoner had no idea who these officers were. She was helpless and she was terrified.

I guess what irks me, and some may call it petty. But when I see people protesting flying other countries' flags. What does that mean? What are they trying to say when they come to America to escape the craphole country they were in, but fly their flag in protest against the American government? Yeah, I'll be that guy, "If your damn country was that great, then go back." I don't mind the protest, but please don't fly the country's flag that you left because it was crap.

It's just more proof that other countries aren't sending their best and brightest here. And the ones slipping through who might actually have some sense? I'm worried they are huddled in some "sleeper cell" ready to do their country of origin's bidding when the time comes. Could be a terror attack or something else. I can't get over how and why so many Chinese nationals were crossing our southern border. And I doubly can't get over how so few people questioned this odd development.

In any case, flying a flag other than Old Glory will always make me question your motives for being here. I have always supported legal immigration to this nation, but this flag-flying idiocy makes me question myself sometimes.

I do agree with you, but let's say you grew up in Alabama and moved to another state. You love the new state because it provides you a better living, but you have a special place in your heart for the state where you grew up. You're still an Alabama football fan and maybe you wear a shirt from time to time that has the Alabama state flag on it. You can love the new state you moved to because it was a great business decision to move there, but you can also have pride in your home state as well.

Buddy of mine had the misfortune of stopping in Baton Rouge about ten years ago to have some lunch on his way to Dallas. In less than 30 minutes, his BAMA decal had been ripped off and the offender used his keys to put some insanely deep grooves down the side. There were marks on one of the tires indicating that he or she wanted to slash at least one tire, but lacking a proper tool for the job, eventually gave up. You'd have to be bat-crap crazy to go flying BAMA flags around that place.

I can understand that viewpoint, but flying it during a protest against the place you moved to comes across as much more than just "state pride". It's one thing to fly my "state flag" on my back porch while cooking out and sharing a beer with my neighbor. It's another thing to take the flag and march with it downtown in front of the courthouse at a protest. One sends one type of message, and one sends a completely different type of message.
