Is it Really the Time to Consider Firing CKD???

In almost every post, I'm seeing this being advocated.

I don't see how it would be possible to do it one game into the year, even if it is the right/best thing.

Assuming the $$$ is there (which is a HUGE assumption), explain how it would work, realistically, for us to fire CKD, one game in???

And, if we did, who coaches the remainder of the year? Interim Coach? But then what's the future plan?
Hey Moon, I'm one of the posters saying "show Deboer the door", but that's coming from the anger of BAMA looking so sad on the field last Saturday. I can't remember a time that I've ever seen BAMA just manhandled by an opponent, plus look completely unprepared for the game. I'm screaming, but I know that we're not going to get rid of Deboer this year. Who would coach? Wommack? I think I want him gone before Deboer. Whatever happens, this is our coaching staff for this year. My only hope is that they can figure this thing out now, not later. Maybe this team will look in the mirror and want to restore their manhood and play football. I guess we have all gone from "promising outlook" to "I hope it doesn't get worse".

If you listened to today’s press conference, you have your answer. “Hope”, “have fun”, and “let it fly” are not strategies for fixing this. We may not be able to afford to fire him, but we can’t afford to keep him either.
I can't listen to his pressers. But yea, does not sound good. Maybe the graphic artists on the site can design the Tidefan's CKD Brick.

I have absolutely zero confidence in him. In fact, I lost it after that Oklahoma game last year. But as mentioned above, the economic reality is he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I feel that all of these issues boil down to culture and personality. His works in the Pacific Northwest, but it will never work in the Deep South. Especially not at a historic blue blood program.

The hope is that against all odds a leopard can change its spots before the economic scales tilt the other way.
i gave him the benefit of the doubt for last year. i won't be putting forth any real effort to watch this team this year. hopefully he can pull it together, but the second half of last year and that debacle from saturday don't give me much hope and at 56, i just don't want to waste time hoping they decide to show up and play.

I could see us losing 6 sec games this year and not making a bowl game. We would have to make a change, but the problem is who do you go after that would take the job. Would Kiffin leave ole miss, i really dont want prime from colorado, and i cant think of anyone else.

Thoughts should also be given to the financial damage. $63 million cost is a lot for anybody. How does that impact NIL? How does it impact recruiting? Then the money that will need to be thrown at a new coach and also a whole new group of recruits. How many players do we lose in transfer portal? While we are all angered with the crap show we watched last Saturday. We really need to be intentional in our thoughts and actions about how to navigate this

Don't ever pay the contractor before the work is done or you'll get crappy results,.. imo I think they've done that to a degree with these players, and there are coaching issues, some of the problems they didn't create, they just don't have a good solution, debore is like the substitute teacher, before the day is over the class is out of control.

Alex Golesh from USF

Marcus Freeman from ND

DeMeco Ryans from the Texans (idk if he wants to coach college)

and look I’m a #NeverDabo guy but may have to take a call I don’t know

that’s all I can think of for now, I don’t think he’ll be fired but the fact that there’s already fans/media talking about the next coach is scary

+1
That sentiment has been prevalent since the start of season for me .. hence the lack of excitement
It was apparent from how they played last year.
I had more faith in Shula teams than this one.

Replacement like hard nosed Vandy coach or high school with limited contract is way to go with heavy performance based incentives

We can’t get Kiffin.

I saw @81usaf92 touch on it somewhere else and if it’s the same thing I’ve heard there are entrenched higher ups that have personal and I mean PERSONAL grudges with Kiffin.

Those people would have to either be out of the picture or Let the issue go… which they wouldn’t.

Plus and this is jmo… Lane seems settled in at Ole Miss and honestly with the way NIL and Portal has leveled the playing field he’s got just as good of a chance of winning a one off NC there as anywhere if you get your choices right.

Plus you have to figure it’s going to hurt us bad financially to get rid of DeBose and we aren’t going to be able to pay well for the next hire for a while.

People are emotional about it right now but we're not going to fire Deboer. I think this was expected to some degree. I think he gets at least 2 more seasons after this one.
I think you are correct. I do hope they can find guys who will play hard because I can't watch guys just go through the motions. I'd rather watch third or fourth string guys who play hard than talented guys who slack off. I can handle losing, but I can't handle incompetence or laziness at Alabama. Right now, I'm seeing both.

I dont see how you justify keeping him next year if we see this downward spiral continue.
At that point there wont be nothing left to save, not in this era of easy transfers.
Only way i see keeping him is if the culture magically changes and we go on a 11-0 run, and i just dont see that happening.

How is CKD planting the seeds for these things? He isn’t even addressing them . Effort in a nationally televised prime time slot GAME should be a given. Discipline seems to be irrelevant to his coaching philosophy.
No one without inside information knows. We're all making assumptions based on beliefs:
  • You (and you have lots of company) assume he isn't because you believe behaviors would already be better than they are if he were.
  • I assume/hope he is because of what I believe about the two mitigating factors I mentioned, and because of those I am not wholly surprised by what I'm seeing.
Time will, of course, tell, at least up to a point. If we don't see change within the timeframe I suggested, either he wasn't addressing those behaviors (meaning you were correct), or the soil was just too toxic.

To answer the OP question, I think there are two different considerations at play.

1) No, we should not fire DeBoer this season, nor are we going to. The money is just too much to overcome

2) I do think the AD should start planning a replacement strategy for 2-3 seasons on. Just from my observations so far, I don’t think DeBoer is going to cut it. I think his ceiling at Bama is going to be 10 wins and an at large playoff bid, and continued shocking losses to teams we should easily beat.

Now to put on my optimist glasses. Best case scenario is that FSU is actually a top 15 team this year that came in with a chip on their shoulder. This game plays the role of Florida’s Ole Miss loss in 2008 and galvanizes the team through the rest of the season. The defense stiffens substantially, trusting more in their film study and assignments. DeBoer makes us all look silly and hysterical. I don’t think this scenario is very likely, but it’s what I’m holding out for. 😎

Every time he talks, he just sounds like he is an observer of the team. “Yeah they said they really want it, and I believe them! I don’t know why the practices didn’t work out in the game!” Bro you are the head coach.
I’ve got a bad feeling he thought the Defense looked ready in practice because of just how putrid our OL has become.

Though that still doesn’t explain the extremely poor tackling because it’s my understanding they’ve been live tackling in practice.

I guess another explanation could be they’ve been coddled by 7am practices trying to avoid the heat and humidity when the FSU game was forecasted to be one of the more humid games all season.

Guys maybe weren’t conditioned to perform in those conditions.

That’s poor preparation as well.

He may be a smart X’s and O’s guy on Offense but he seems so tone deaf and oblivious to the human elements of football.

KDB looked like a deer in headlights in the presser today

After the "communication issue" where I think he thought the reporter said "green week," I actually like what he said about the team being upset and his ability to speak to them differently this year.

I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall in the locker room, but it sounds like they had a heart to heart hard talk after the game.
