Hmm... Do we now have a QB controversy?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

No...but its very reassuring that if we happen to have any injury then we have excellent next man up options....that is a great situation to be in

Ty Simpson answered a lot of questions and made a statement tonight. He is the starter. He was on target and on time. He read defenses well. He hit the correct receiver on almost every opportunity. 100% completion rate is impressive in practice, but maybe elite in a game. Austin Mack wasn’t always on time and needs to learn touch. Keelon Russell demonstrated that he can be elite and will only get better with time. The whole qb room impressed many tonight.

Ask me after Georgia… I still think Grubb either panicked or decided to try to strike up the band every play vs FSU and that was 70% of our issues on offense. What we ran tonight is what everyone saw at the REC scrimmages in that everything is quick and a death of a 1000 needles. If that is our true offense then I think we don’t have a controversy… yet. But if FSU really did expose flaws in our receivers and running backs then I think we may have a quarterback controversy that we might actually consider more PT for Keelon.

But again… per Rodney Orr the staff is super high on Mack as well. So his #2 position is there for a reason.

No.

But, I just don’t see Mack being able to keep Russell off the field for long if Ty were to go down for a long stretch.
I'm no expert, but he has some uncoachable talents that, when combined with some real live experience like tonight, will cause him to explode on the scene when there is an opportunity.

I know he was playing in blow out time, but he looks so smooth compared to Ty, who is talented but just seems to have to exert himself more.

FTR, Ty is the man until he shows he's not. What we saw tonight from him is plenty enough to win out IF the rest of the team shows out like it did tonight too!

According to ChatGPT, Ty‘s QBR tonight was 269.9, and his NFL passer rating was a perfect 158.3…

Edit - Unlike Ty's passer rating, ChatGPT isn't perfect. Max QBR is 100 (embarrassed that I forgot that). Ty rated a 99.3. Austin and Keelon rated 93.8 and 94.8 respectively.
