i put zero faith in the administration's use of the word "illegal"
This is my problem.

I have zero problem deporting 450 or however many people here illegally.

It's just I'm being asked to believe a guy who still lies about damn near everything just happens to be telling the truth about this one thing.

Welker: Goldman Sachs says 86% of the tariff revenue collected so far has been paid by American businesses and consumers. Do you acknowledge that these tariffs are a tax on American consumers?

Bessent: No, I don't.

Of course he doesn't acknowledge it. The Cult refuses to say anything negative about its leader.
Bessent has a decent pedigree, but he has turned into a brainwashed sycophant somewhere along the way... Hard to fathom...

My MAGA younger brother seems to think that good, red-blooded Americans are going to be lining up for those jobs in roofing, meatpacking, fruitpicking, sod-laying.
My ex-FIL even 20 years ago would go into a raging rant about "there's no such thing as jobs Americans won't do."

Uh......yes there is.......

I'm watching in my own career field where people who for 18-24 months made a killing in salaries due to a pandemic now are saying, "But I used to be making this" as if the pandemic was going to continue forever or the federal government was going to throw money at hospitals. These idiots REALLY DO BELIEVE - or did a couple of years ago - that if we all just got together and refused to work for any less than X, hospitals would "have no choice" and "be forced" to raise med tech salaries. And then when the market crashed - when the feds withdrew their incessant flooding of hospitals with Covid money and salaries plummeted from $3K per week to less than $2K per week (more in line with what they'd been making as travelers), they BLAMED THE PEOPLE TAKING THE JOBS FOR LOWER SALARY! Never mind that some of these people were more into the travel aspect than the salary aspect and never drank deeply at the trough of high salaried weeks.

My own agent (who had to go find a different job) told me story after story about people who had made well over $135K in a year at a high-paying lab job during the pandemic then telling him they were broke. He would ask, "How is that even possible when you were making 3x what you normally made?" Thing was - they thought it was going to last forever and much like an MLM scheme it never does.

Hamburger tastes great when you're hungry.
It doesn't taste so good when you got used to steak and wine.

It would for me simply because I don't care much for steak in the first place, but you know what I mean.

I think we all know you're probably right. Most people are going to blame that on the spoiled, lazy, millennials or what not and there is some truth to that. I think the bigger issue is how we, as a society, have looked down on the people who do these jobs and made fun of them. The answer, of course, is education. If you are struggling in life its because you don't have enough education. Going to college and getting a professional job is the answer to all your problems. Just so we can help make that happen we are going to loan you all the money you want, financial prudence scattered to the winds.

We need people in these jobs. We need plumbers, electricians, welders, heating and air. It's time to stop looking down our noses at these people and accept them as vital cogs in our economy.

Notably that other Americans will do those jobs. Not them or their friends and family...

And that they should be proud to do it for less than minimal wage...

With no benefits or guarantees...

When you work for Trump, you leave your manhood at the door.

Go look at the independently smart guys in his first administration - Rex Tillerson ("the President is a bleeping moron") and James Mattis, most notably - they attempted to curb his wilder urges and raging nonsense and one left fired and the other just plain left.

These are the people working in this administration who think that when they get out it's going to be like it was for the Republicans in the 90s or the Democrats in the early 00s who had worked in the government. "You worked for Reagan/Bush/Clinton? Great, come take this figurehead management/college President/gets you a lot of attention and us a lot of prestige position!"

These guys now are going to be the kind who apply to work at Burger King and have a noticeable four-year gap on their resumes.
