Children are about the same age as mine. Feel bad for the family. I don’t really think anyone deserves that and I hope who did it gets caught, but if he wasn’t at a rally preaching hate(he was in the middle of blaming trans people for mass shootings when shot) 100% he would be able to go home and hug their necks tonight.
"He deserved it because he was saying bad things" is a wild take on free speech.

It would be interesting to see if the shooter matches the profile everyone expected.

Or maybe they used some completely non-political reason…

maybe not "celebrate", but they would go wild on it

from a recent political assassination that was forgotten after a few days

folks (including some here) were spreading all kinds of vile stuff right after paul pelosi was attacked in his home a few years back

You keep your narrative then. Blaming the wrong people.

I’m not sure what the expected profile is but the worst thing it could be is a stereotype of the far-left.

I’ve already seen stuff on FB and Reddit where the far-right is frothing at the mouth to ride at dawn and get revenge.

I mean sure most of that is probably internet tough talk but somebody would be crazy enough to try and retaliate.

The last thing we need is the fringes going to war and assassinating political figures back and forth on opposite sides.

Nothing will cool heads in the coming days I suppose though.

I just hope things don’t escalate.

Hopefully they catch the shooter soon and bring he or she to Justice.

Political violence is never an answer in America. I was not a fan of Charlie Kirk’s politics, but his murder transcends politics. A wife has lost her husband, two children their father, and a nation has been wounded.

This is not simply the fault of the left or the right. It is the result of a culture that makes it too easy to dehumanize those we disagree with, where leaders and activists stoke anger and demonize opponents. When that poison spreads, it should not surprise us when someone turns to violence.

We must break this cycle before more families are left grieving and our nation drifts further into division and hate.

This is not simply the fault of the left or of the right. It is the result of a culture where it's all too easy to dehumanize those with whom we disagree, where politicians and activists stoke anger and demonize opponents. When that poison takes root, it should not surprise us when someone commits an inhuman act.

We must break this cycle before more families are left grieving and our nation slides further into chaos and hatred.
and a culture where it is entirely too easy to acquire a firearm

Ezra Klein:

In the last few years we've seen:
- The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer
- The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC
- The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi
- Multiple assassination attempts against Trump
- The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife
- Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson
- The assassination of Charlie Kirk

Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system.

It should terrify us all. The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.

i wouldn't read too much into that chart.

from the study methodology

Figure 1: Percent of respondents overall and those self-identifying as left and right of center who find murder
of the respective individuals at least partially justified. The bar graphs here show the percentage of people in
each group selecting scores from 2 to 7 on the scales assessing support for murdering Musk and Trump.
Scores of 1 were excluded because such scores meant that the respondent considered the respective form of
political violence was not at all justified.

I'll of course have to disagree here, I lean more towards us having a huge mental health problem and we have done little to nothing to try to work towards a solution.

We've got some big problems in this country, the means of acquiring a firearm is not at the top of that list. It seems to always be the easy catch all when a shooting happens, but bad people will always be able to get firearms regardless of laws.

We also have political leaders stoking things like this with idiotic rhetoric, that will drive those with mental health issues into doing things like we saw today.

i haven't blamed anyone, and i don't have a narrative. the dirtbag shooter is the one responsible for this.

I agree and I hope the killer spends the rest of his life in prison. I oppose the death penalty but I won’t lose any sleep if he gets the Gary Gillmore treatment.
