LGBTQ Issues (Part 3)

the continued vicious bigotry directed at the trans community (and it’s coming again for the “regular” lgbtq folks as well) is truly disgusting

The Dolls: ‘What we really crave is to work, love and exist with dignity’

As trans rights face increasing threat in the UK, Glamour honours nine of the community's most ground-breaking voices at this year's Women of the Year Awards. From fashion and music to charity and activism work, these trailblazers work tirelessly to empower, uplift and celebrate trans voices.

When the London-based US designer Conner Ives took a bow after his AW25 show in February, he was wearing a simple white T-shirt with ‘Protect the Dolls’ written on it. For Ives, it was a gesture of solidarity towards his trans friends facing life in Trump’s America (‘the dolls’ is an affectionate term sometimes given to trans women that originally came from Black and Latina ***** communities or ‘houses’ in the Ballroom scene).

Supreme Court won’t hear challenge to landmark gay marriage ruling

The announcement indicates there is not an appetite among the high court’s conservative majority to revisit one of the court’s most significant decisions in recent years.
To the surprise of approximately zero people. But we can reassure the folks unhappy about this that gay marriage will go away when Mamdani's secret plan to turn the U.S. into a Muslim nation is successful.

In all seriousness I don't think Sharia looks very kindly on gay marriage or for that matter, gay relationships overall. What happens when progressives are confronted with two, or more, different groups whose level of oppression is the same AND their thoughts and beliefs are in direct contradiction with each other? Who wins?

It gets ignored and people will just continue to whistle past the graveyard. A good example of this is the ridiculous gnashing of teeth from the left over a fictional story called "The Handmaiden's Tale", but will ignore the reality of Muslim women all over the world being treated like property. Left-wing feminists are not serious people, but they do provide the blueprint of how to deal when one is trying to reconcile two radically different views.

The hypocrisy from many on the left regarding gay and women’s rights in certain Muslim countries is both despicable and inexcusable. They should be just as quick to condemn those policies and individuals as they are to denounce right-wing Christians and other intolerant bigots.

Which left leaning straw-person is ignoring "the reality of Muslim women all over the world being treated like property"? Those sound like a biased media's words echoing in your post.

And Left-wing feminists aren't serious people? Okay. Go ahead and support these wild ideas. I'm willing to learn where you got these ideas that you can honestly support these statements.

I'll admit that anytime a western culture views another culture's treatment of women, they probably see through a western cultural lens a culture that needs to be "fixed". And, I'm sure, like always, the boots on the ground reality is far more nuanced and different that we expect.

I think it’s wrong and I would imagine most on the left agree. But what are they supposed do about it? They are dealing with inequality in this country.

Alrighty then, please show me this army of dedicated leftists who are willing to risk everything to speak out against the awful conditions these women are forced to live under. Which politician? Which actor? Which podcaster? I'm sure one can find an example here and there, true, but by and large, this is not an issue the left wants to touch.

I figured this out during the Clinton years. After the Lewinski scandal, I just knew that Clinton's horn-dog ways were about to catch up to him after taking advantage of a subordinate. To this day, I only remember one person who called him out: Gloria Steinam. Not a peep from NOW (that I can recall.) And why? Politics, of course. This is who we are aligned with, so we can afford to put our principles on hold for a bit. If something like that happened to Dubya, there would be screams of righteous indignation and demands he be lynched on the White House lawn.

Holy rationalizations, Batman! So abhorrent behavior is okay as long as it's part of the culture? Look, I'm not saying we should intervene or try to drag these people kicking and screaming into the 21st century. All I'm asking for is a simple acknowledgment and even that is a yard too far.

Well, gawwwwwllleee. The Supremes come through respecting precedent.

They turn back hateful warthog Kim Davis's attempt to overturn the Court's same-sex marriage decision.

For now I guess.

I never understood the concept of government-approved marriage. The only legitimate interest I can see is not letting children marry. But, between consenting adults, who cares?
