Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. IU...

It has been said repeatedly, but today should be clear proof that you need a balanced offense attack with a meaningful running game. The inability to run prevents you from controlling tempo, getting first downs, wearing down the opponent, setting up the pass, keeping your own D rested and much more. We have no running game. So everything else puts stress on the QB and WR to produce each and every time.

So frustrating to watch and know we have to also play a less than healthy Simpson for weeks because we dont have a solid alternative.
the running game is the most disgusting aspect of this team and the worst I have personally witnessed as a lifelong Bama fan. there are less talented teams in FBS and FCS for that matter that run far better than this Tide team.

Every team left in the playoffs (assuming UGA wins) is molded in the image of the Saban/Alabama style of football. While Alabama is now molded into a west coast team. Our type of offense will not win championships against physical teams, too one dimensional. It reminds me of Shula's offense in that it doesn't score a lot of points. I would imagine there are a lot of conversations being had before the team arrives back in Tuscaloosa, not to replace CKD, but what changes need to be made with this staff. This offense and defense will not play with the best teams, and it could not have had a better display to prove it.

Look, I’m not a fair weather Bama fan. I’ve been with this program through thick and thin since 1967.
Im not advocating canning DeBoer. But he’s had two years now to get his feet under him in this program. You can talk about getting “his players” that fit his “system. That is all fine and good. But at some point you dance with the girl you brought to the dance. And you may not win the “dance contest”, but you darn sure put forth an effort that says “yeah that blue ribbon is important”.
There are issues with this staff and the coaching. The buck stops with CKD.
Get it together or get gone. I’m tired of your milktoast attitude.

Yeah, we have been terrible running the ball all year long. Coaches need to raid the portal for some road grinders on oline.

I thought the 3rd string QB was the greatest thing to put on cleats?

Look I have hesitated to divulge why I wasn’t very high on this season to begin with because you would have the same reaction from the “never DeBoer fans” that you are getting now. So here it is:

At the REC scrimmage Courtney Morgan was the big speaker. He basically came out with a “temper your expectations” kinda statement. He basically said the quarterback play was a mystery and we struck out at Oline. He basically strongly hinted at us using the portal hard for the 26 year because we struck out in 25. They kinda made it out that Ty wasn’t their first choice entering the season nor were they positive about the running abilities of this team.

A former Alabama DLine great was also there and believed our front line defensive players were great but we had serious depth problems at DL and LB.

I thought 9-3 with an outside chance of a SECCG was our best outcome if things go good with 10 or more wins as an over achieving team based on vibes.

I’m going to spoil it for you right now… we won’t go into summer without knowing who our quarterback is. Texas Tech is offering Russell truckloads. I don’t think Mack vs Russell will turn into Milroe vs Simpson.

I think we need to be a little more patient and cautious about wanting to run off the head man. However I think changes within the staff are essential and non negotiable if he wants to survive. Keep in mind Cristobal had to make tough staff choices at Miami recently after getting embarrassed time and time again. Day had to too. You just can’t make those moves in season so thinking they won’t happen are very premature.

What sad is Byrne blew this hire so bad. He had the opportunity to hire Kiffin. I don’t care if he introduced himself as Joey Freshwater or how many rich boosters feelings he hurt.

He was the obvious choice even at that time.

But just like the clowns on here blaming Saban for DeBoer’s utter failure, we were too good to hire Kiffin.

Saban being paid as an advisor of the University of Alabama didn’t want Kiffin at Alabama.

But by God he advised him to take the LSU job while an employee of Alabama.

I hope all you guys are happy because I can honestly say you were and still are WRONG.

Roll Tide anyway.
Kiffin is an imbecile

Indiana got smoked last year by Notre Dame (27-3 with 2 touchdowns in last minute and a half to make it 27-17). People were saying see they got embarrassed and didn’t belong in big stage yet they kept their coaches and now look like best team in country.
The fact that we are comparing ourselves to IU is a problem in itself. All I am saying is there needs be significant adjustments to what we are doing and if that means shuffling the assistant coaching staff to do it then we need to do it. Running the ball and playing defense is what Alabama Football is all about.

Give it a rest. This team has 14 5* kids on the roster, more than any other team, last years team had 17. That’s plenty of talent. And BTW, it was Deboer’s job to retain talent after Nick retired.

Because we see new coaches actually preventing a mass exodus all the time during a coaching transition

Couldn’t disagree more. I think Mark Ingram was quoted as saying Coach DeBoer was an “out scheme” you Coach and less interested in mental toughness. So I’m curious, do you see Coach D figuring all of this out next year. I’m going to bet we may be having the same conversation next year. Wonder what your feeling will be at that point? Especially if he signs an extension.
Depends: is he self aware enough to see that he needs to make changes or not?
He can either be another Coach Saban/Coach Bryant (willing to change) or a coach Les Miles who ends up coaching his last year or two at Kansas............Only time will tell.

You need to realize that CFB is ruined, so in 2025/2026 a team like Indiana can actually play / beat Bama.

You can talk about coaching all day, and there's some merit in that - but the reality is concocting a CFB now is more about being a chef as being a coach.

Reading this makes me feel a little more confident in the program.
Do you think that CKD will make staff changes?
Do you think Russell is gonna stay?
Not being combative, just genuinely curious.

I've been on this for over a year, and I think last year Milroe masked some of the same issues that just got worse.

When you put this all on the QB, it doesn't matter who they are, Milroe, Ty, even Penix in the championship game against Michigan, they just can't do it all and this system ends up asking them to. The defense knows that, and just focuses on disrupting the QB.

Penix was a great player, but against Michigan he was 27/51 with 1 TD and 2 INTs. You shouldn't be putting your QB in a position where he has to pass 50 times in a championship game.

This is an inversion of what happened with Hurts at Alabama, where people were screaming that Alabama needed to be able to pass, yet they kept winning with Hurts and just running the ball. Until that was absolutely useless in the championship game. Sooner or later you're going to need balance.

1) staff changes are happening but who and what quality is the question.

2) I believe Russell will be the quarterback next year even if we have to deal with the growing pains of it.

That is good stuff right there. No way anyone should be wanting to run off DeBoer. But yes, wholesale changes are needed in the staff, philosophy-wise and players.

Then someone needs to back up the Brinks truck at Bobby Flay's place.
