Because of the nature of how our comments work, I'm just going to stick old threads and put up new ones at least through 1/16 and potentially afterward as well.

1/13 UPDATE:

QB (6): Austin Mack, Keelon Russell, Jett Thomalla, Tayden Kaawa, John Gazzaniga (WO), John Cooper (WO)
Take: No needs here.

____________________________________________________________________________________

RB: (7): Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley, Akylin Dear, Ezavier Crowell, Traeshawn Brown, Jessie Washington (WO), Fredrick Moore (WO)
Take: No change since 1/11. Alabama is apparently still kicking the tires on several guys (including, if you believe the internet rumor machine, former Alabama RB Justice Haynes). I will repeat what I've said earlier -- if Dear has improved and Crowell and/or Brown are as good as their HS film, we don't really need to take another guy here. But it looks like we eventually will.

____________________________________________________________________________________

WR: (8): Ryan Williams, Noah Rogers, Rico Scott, Lotzeir Brooks, Derek Meadows, Cederian Morgan, Ben Jackson (WO), Cooper Mollison (WO)
Take: I'm back to breathing normally now after Alabama landed NC State transfer Noah Rogers. Rogers' production was about on par with Isaiah Horton's, he has a similar build (albeit a little smaller) and keeps Alabama from depending on Rico Scott as a starter next year. Rogers has two years of eligibility. I still think Alabama needs a minimum of two more guys. I think having eight on scholarship is a must and we're at six with the addition of Rogers.

____________________________________________________________________________________

TE: (9): Danny Lewis Jr., Josh Ford, Jay Lindsey, Jack Sammarco, Kaleb Edwards, Marshall Pritchett, Mack Sutter, Peyton Fox (WO), Jaxon Shuttlesworth (WO)
Take: Comment from 1/11: "No further needs here, but I'm told we're probably taking one more guy, probably developmental." And with that, here comes Jaxon Shuttlesworth from Jacksonville State.

____________________________________________________________________________________

OL: (19): Michael Carroll, Tyrell Miller, Kaden Strayhorn, Will Sanders, Jackson Lloyd, Ty Haywood, Bryson Cooley, Casey Poe, Mal Waldrep, Chris Booker, Bear Fretwell, Jared Doughty, Mac Smith (WO), Billy Roby (WO), Davis Peterson (WO), Baker Hickman (WO), Wade Estess (WO), Jamison Travis (WO), J.D. Martin (WO)
Take: We're at the point now where we can survive with one more addition, and that would be a starting-quality center. Getting OT Ty Haywood from Michigan this week is a nice add. Haywood, for those who remember, was committed to Alabama for almost the entire 2024-2025 recruiting cycle, then went shopping for a bag and got it from Michigan. He played last year, but not enough to burn his redshirt. He was clearly not as ready to go as a true freshman as had been promised by the recruiting experts, but he's got all the right measurables for a left tackle in our system and will push Jackson Lloyd. Preferably, Alabama adds two guys here, with the other being a guard/center or guard/tackle utility player.

____________________________________________________________________________________

DL: (18): Yhonzae Pierre, Jeremiah Beaman, London Simmons, Devan Thompkins, Justin Hill, Edric Hill, Kedrick Bingley-Jones, Caleb Smith, Zay Hall, Isaia Faga, Steve Mboumoua, Fatutoa Henry, Nolan Wilson, Malique Franklin, Kamhariyan Johnson, Jamarion Matthews, Corey Howard, Lane Whisenhunt (WO)
Take: The loss of Jordan Renaud and the addition of Caleb Smith from Washington is a net negative right now simply because Smith is a developmental player. However, Smith has more of the body type Alabama is looking for at this spot. He's originally from Birmingham. Alabama needs to get at least one more tackle, preferably two, and one other guy for Bandit end. With the losses of Renaud and Keeley, the top backup to Devan Thompkins is now Fatutoa Henry, who played just enough last year to burn his redshirt. Alabama also has to seek a waiver for Kedrick Bingley-Jones, whose eligibility is technically out. Another guy reportedly seeking a waiver is Jah-Marien Latham, who would instantly solve the depth problem at Bandit if he can get eligible to play.

____________________________________________________________________________________

LB: (10): Q.B. Reese. Caleb Woodson, Cayden Jones, Abduall Sanders Jr., Darrell Johnson, Luke Metz, Xavier Griffin, Grant Johnson (WO), Jake Ivie (WO), Aiden Moore (WO)
Take: No change from last week. Woodson probably closes this one out although there's a chance we could add another guy if he's the right guy. I like our young guys here, all of them.

____________________________________________________________________________________

DB: (24): Dijon Lee Jr., Bray Hubbard, Rydarrius Morgan, Keon Sabb, Zabien Brown, Nick Sherman, Zavier Mincey, Carmelo O'Neal, Ivan Taylor, Chuck McDonald, Jordan Edmonds, Rihyael Kelley, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., Jireh Edwards, Zyan Gibson, Kolby Peavy (WO), London Hill (WO), Walter Sansing (WO), Conner Warhurst (WO), Ty Roper (WO), Cole Davis (WO), Brody McCutcheon (WO), Griffin Hanson (WO), Kyle Clayton (WO)
Take: O'Neal was a surprise add but you have to like the body type. Alabama also got word Monday that Bray Hubbard would come back for his senior year, and also that Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. would remain on the roster. This unit should be strong again.

____________________________________________________________________________________

ST: (8): PK Conor Talty, PK Tucker Cornelius (WO), PK Lorcan Quinn, P Adam Watford, P Alex Asparuhov, P Anderson Green (WO), LS Ethan Stangle, LS Jay Williams (WO)
Take: In the end, Alabama did indeed decide to take a kicker, Marshall's Lorcan Quinn. Quinn's resume already puts him ahead of the older Conor Talty, who now becomes a threat to enter the portal. Getting P Adam Watford from UNA is insurance against Asparuhov not being able to come back from his leg injury, and the take of LS Ethan Stangle from Syracuse was a necessity.

Has taken already/total to take:
QB: 0/0
RB: 0/1
WR: 1/3
TE: 2/2
OL: 2/4
DL: 3/5
ILB: 1/1
DB: 1/1
ST: 3/3

TOTAL: 13/20
Roster Size Total as of 1/11: 107/105

So, probably "bye" to Talty?

Can't imagine he'd not test the portal after the "rough" year.

I agree another RB would help, but preferably someone with verifiable success...not just a "maybe/if" guy.

Another WR too? I understand why we didn't get Coleman, but as injury-prone as WR can be, it would be nice to see another "tested" one that had results last year. If Cedarian is as ready as he "looks" (his build reminds me of AJ Brown) maybe it doesn't matter?

Any legit DL or OL will be welcomed too.

Seems we are working on your list Jess. Looks like we have OL, DT, WR and a LB visiting this weekend or soon. The portal closes tomorrow but we are on a lot of other guys as well so I am hoping our portal woes are a thing of the past after this cycle. Got to hand it to Morgan and Co., those guys are working it constantly at the high school level and the portaleers.

Well... Morgan himself said to be patient. I was not patient enough... The first "big names" to go are going to deplete some NIL accounts very quickly out there.

Thanks for coming around.

Our long-game approach seems to be working to address needs. And when you don't have deep pockets, it's really what we've got to do!

And, when TAMA tried to pay big, we see what it got them a few years ago.

Seems there must be a careful balance of team-building, tactics and knowing when to put the right money on the right players. At best, it's an imperfect science that everybody is having to try to navigate.

This is it. That's exactly what I've been saying.

Thanks for the updates...well organized information is always a good thing.

It's very hard for me to conclude that we've improved our roster on the OL or at RB. I'll hold off on the celebrations until I see our biggest issues addressed, at least minimally. If we can't fix the running game the rest is just eye candy.

Wait until you see what happens today.

Nobody’s asking for celebrations…just patience in the process.
