Scott Moore: Petrino meeting

WPtider is now reporting that Scott Moore is probably speculating at best. We'll wait for some official confirmation on this story.

I have no insider info or "sources". I was curious whta Petrino's buy-out is and who customarly pays this. I would think it is very large also.

I believe it is only 1 million. So to get him (mistake, imo, because he his teams never really play defense, but anyway) would be $4 million to buy out Shula, $1 million to buy Petrino UL contract, plus a $2-$2.5 million a year to get him here, plus we aould probably have to buy out some of our current assistants contracts, plus new assistants. Could get pricy if Shula is released.

The contract with Shula isnt a lump sum payment, he will get like 62k a month. And will stop or reduce (not sure which is the case)as soon as he finds gainful employment. So it isnt like Bama will have to write him a check the second he leaves.

It looks like Scott is as confused as everyone else. Either (blank) or (blank), but it could be (blank).

Vonnegut was right.

That's not what Scott said. He was more specific than that.

I don't know if Scott has this right or not but he is a sports journalist. Reporting BS would only hurt the publics perception of him.

I don't know him well but I know him casually. He's a good guy. he's also a huge Bama fan.

He also said that SOS initiated the discussions and it started three weeks ago.

I'm not doubting his credentials. The point is that he doesn't seem to know any more than has already been discussed. The workings here have been well concealed to even the best of journalists.

Now that it's clear that there will be a change, I must say that I hope the folks making the decisions at least have someone "close" to being locked in.

If we get nays from all of our top targets, then you can forget recruiting this year, and future years looks very bleak.

I really feel that Mal Moore should be the first to be gone, and it makes me sad to say that.

Any thoughts on the guy from Va Tech? I can't think of his name....
You mean this Va Tech?

Not sure I would feel very comfortable about Frank Beamer.

I just don't trust Petrino. As good as he is, I'd prefer the University looked elsewhere.

I am also in agreement with your comment. He looks to be a younger version of Franchione, an opportunist who would use Alabama as a stepping stone to the right NFL job. The fact that he coached a season or two at AU has nothing to do with anything, he obviously is a very good coach but I would prefer Rodriguez or Johnson, but I don't have a vote. If he is hired I will support him though.
