Re: My opinion/knowledge of whats going on.

Credibility? For what, being absolutely wrong?I would be totally disgusted if they hired Saban after he ripped our boobies off with his comments today.

I would be sorely disappointed in SOS if he came here after what he has said to the people of Carolina and his players.
See, I agree with this too. If Spurrier left the people of SC high and dry after indicating he was happy there, he'd be stabbing them in the back just like Fran stabbed us (and UTC) a handful of years ago. That left a bad taste in my mouth and this would too. i couldnt respect the ol ball coach for this.

And yeah...Saban was pretty tough on us (though Mal probably deserved it).

Re: going way out on this one

I hope and pray those making decisions look over Grobe's ONE good year and see his overall resume. Grobe is getting a lot of deserved attention for this year, but what else has he done? If we're going to get someone on the Grobe tier, I would rather it be Johnson. At least he's won everywhere he's been and been consistent about it.
I agree, Tut. If I had a choice (and I don't) I think I would prefer PJ over JG. (As long as he doesn't turn us into an option team.)

If I had to pick from someone that has been labeled a "B" choice, it would be Tedford.

I think you're right that Johnson might be a better choice if we had to pick b/t him and Grobe. He seems as though he's been able to adapt with the personel he's given. BUT Grobe might be coming into his own as a HC. Either way, I'd love to see Bama land a guy with a real resume.

Re: New Coach Speculation (ALL THOUGHTS ON COACHING PROSPECTS GO HERE!!!

I'm shocked Jeff Tedford's name hasn't been mentioned. Isn't he from out this way (eastern US)? I remember him being on Jim Rome a while back talking about the tough adjustment having to be out on the west coast. Talk about a guy turning around a program. Cal was literally not even a blip on the radar and Tedford has turned them in to BCS contenders and a team that displays demolitions of their opponents.

Re: New Coach Speculation (ALL THOUGHTS ON COACHING PROSPECTS GO HERE!!!

You know, as the day goes on I get less and less of a picture of what REALLY may or may not be going on. I want to hold on to the hope that Spurrier or Saban want to come here, but I guess the job isn't as appealing to them as I thought it might be. So I guess that it's time for me to move on to Fantasy Coach #3 -- Petrino.

IMO, it's gonna be P. Johnson

Of course, it's just an opinion. But, I think that Saban or Spurrier was our first choice (1a. and 1b. if you will), then Petrino, and I think Paul Johnson is our third choice. He definitely will not turn it down. Saban and Spurrier are long shots and I think Petrino and his family are too settled in at Louisville at this time. So that leaves it for Mr. Johnson, who will jump at the opportunity to lead Bama back to prominence. And, if he can win at Navy, it will be a cinch at Bama. To be honest, I don't know that much about him, but from everything that I've heard and read, he can flat out coach. That's definitely what we need. Plus, he would probably be someone who could possibly stick around for a while.

I'm expecting him to be announced as the new HC at my beloved University of Alabama within the next couple of weeks (preferably next week) after Navy's game with Army this Saturday. We definitely want to get the right coach, but we need to get someone in here as quickly as possible because this is a critical time in recruiting. Again, this is just my opinion. I really want Spurrier, but Johnson may be the best for our program. rtr

I agree with you -- but my only apprehension about the guy is recruiting. I don't know if he can do it (I only say that because I don't know what experience he's got in an area of the country that is so competitive when it comes to recruiting). All in all though, I'm impressed with what I've read about him. My sincere hope is (IF he's our guy of course) that the BamaNation accepts him with open arms.

That's a good observation. I've got a friend from the area that says that [Petrino thinks] Louisville will have a hard time winning a title in the Big East. But from what I've understood he and his family are quite comfortable where they are. We can still have our dreams though.

His son is graduating this year from Trinity High School, possibly the 2006 State Champs in one more game and then what? He goes off to a small college to quarterback leaving Petriono and his wife to leave Louisville for bigger more powerful schools. The worst of it is that Tommy Tuberville is being linked to the Miami job, his roots are from there, and you know Petrino wanted that job even when it wasn't vacant.

dont know if you caught my edit i understand what you were saying now but tubby used to coach down there at miami so maybe its wishful thinking on miami's part.

Re: IMO, it's gonna be P. Johnson

For it to get to Johnson, it might have to first go through Grobe, and it would almost certainly stop there before Johnson had a chance to say anything. But that's just my impression of it.
