Rick Neuheisel to UAB?

Footballscoop.com is reporting that CWB will resign today and become AD. Also, sources say UAB is pursuing Neuheisel. Would be an excellent hire IMO.

In other news... the NCAA has announced they will be setting up an office on the campus of UAB.

I just don't see how Neuheisel will get another college coaching job with a gambling scandal over his head.

Yes it was, and the NCAA took it as seriously as they could. Just like the NFL, they are PARANOID when it comes to coaches and gambling of any kind.

The NCAA actually didn't have grounds to go after Neuheisel on the gambling issues because of a lot of confusion about the rules.

Yes, but think about it...he would never land at a big school with that scandal over his head. However, he could go to a place like UAB, he's got a name, he could get the players to come there, I'm sure, and he could win games there. He could get UAB where they need to be and put that scandal behind him by winning games and proving that he can be trusted. I'm one of the few Bama and UAB fans out there, so this concerns me a little bit. I'd think it'd be a good deal if CRN went to UAB and CWB was AD.

Neuheisel was fired in the summer of 2003 from the University of Washington for gambling on the NCAA Basketball Tournament, in addition to numerous minor recruiting violations. However, the gambling case became a local sensation when it was revealed that he had received an internal University of Washington memo which authorized this type of gambling. Analysis revealed that the NCAA rules were ambiguous and inconsistent (the NCAA website itself was found to have old versions of its rules by posters on the "dawgman.com" website) seeming to allow gambling within certain contexts, and it became apparent that the NCAA violated its own rules when questioning Neuheisel about the gambling. Legal proceedings enabled Neuheisel to collect a substantial settlement and essentially clear him of wrongdoing as the NCAA and University of Washington were forced to abandon their case.

My personal line of thought is that UAB would try to elevate a prominent HS coach in the area to the College level if Brown were to step down.

This is another example of the gestapo we have to deal with known as the NCAA. They investigated Neuheisel about activities that they had said were ok, destroyed his career for no reason, and moved on. This guy is a real coaching talent and no big school will touch him,not because he's done anything wrong, but because the NCAA goons would love to nail him and will scrutinize the school he works for too closely. The NCAA plays favorites, deceives, and destroys lives. The NCAA should be investigated and disbanded. If RN comes to UAB I'll go to the games. A lot of people will.

The biggest asset a guy like Neuheisel has is definitely recruiting. He could make UAB a much bigger player in recruiting than they are.

Neuheisel ran Colorado and Washington into the ground. Look at the condition those programs were in when he got there and the condition they were in when he left. I would love to see him at UAB. :biggrin2:

Didn't R. Probst say he'd take his staff and thought he could coach at the college level against at least 50 of the staffs out there??? My father in law told me he said that on the news last night. Let him go to UAB. Maybe he and his staff CAN outcoach 50 other staffs!!!

If Larry Blakeney can be a head coach in the Div IA football then so can Neuheisel although I agree it won't be at a big school.

I'm assuming you're referring to Propst. I can guarantee you that won't happen - Propst's boys took some cheap shots on Watson's son when he was playing QB at Vestavia. He pretty much hasn't had anything to do with him since then...
