Good point. I was uncomfortable when I heard the "co" stuff just because of the CMD era. Who finally makes the decisions?

I was on a flight with Applewhite a few years ago from Houston to B'ham. I was travelling to see Bama/Auburn. Applewhite, who was wearing his UT athletic suit, had just suffered an injury (knee I think). Some of the Bama fans in the airport were talking to him and asking him if he was travelling to B'ham to see Dr. Andrews. He emphatically replied "No, I'm going to the game."

Then some moron asked "Who are you pulling for?"

He replied "Bama of course!"

Despite going to UT, he still bleeds Crimson. Gotta love it! We missed out on him...like others have said here...it ticks me off that Dubose didn't recruit him. Oh well.

Ok, Applewhite is a big Bama fan. That's great!

Can he coach! Can he lead! Does he inspire the youglings!

With all do respect to Major A., is he our best choice for OC? Or is he our only hope for OC?

Type in "Major Applewhite" into google and the first thing you get is this:

I wish I had known of this earlier because I didn't pay any attention to Rice's offense when they played Troy a couple weeks ago. From what I'm reading it looks like Rice really improved. They had a 1,000 yard passer, rusher and receiver, a first for Rice. Rice also averaged more than a TD more per game from the previous year. Their sophomore QB had 21 TDs and only 5 INTs.

The Rice QB only played in 8 games by the way. Had he played a full season he would have had 30 TDs and 2600 yards passing.

Alright, I'm on the Major Applewhite for OC bandwagon. Apparently he's a Bama fan and a good OC and I didn't like the way he was treated at Texas.

Haha when I first went there I thought it was for the firing of him but I when I saw this
Major Applewhite was a good college quarterback and I'm sure he's a fantastic graduate assistant. He'll probably make a darn good quarterbacks coach before he's promoted to offensive coordinator and finally head coach, where he may win championship after championship. He could do it all before he hits the age of 40.

But one day his luck will turn, boosters will start calling for his head... and this site will be ready.
I died laughing, at least they have a sense of humor.

Quotes from that linked article:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4453170.html

After helping steer Rice to its first bowl berth in 45 years, Owls offensive coordinator Major Applewhite was contacted by Alabama on Saturday to gauge his interest in joining the staff of new Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban...

... In his first and only season at Rice, Applewhite, 28, enhanced his reputation as a coaching wunderkind, directing a spread attack that scored the most points (350) and amassed the third-most yards (4,486) in school history...
I think we could do a heck of a lot worse.

"Aren't most examples from the DuBose era bad examples"

Most but not all we haven't won the SEC Championship since he left

I trust Saban to know a good coach from a bad one so whoever he choses I expect to be a good hire.

Forgot to mention one important point (which many probably know), Mr. Applewhite told me his son was born right around the time Bama was winning the national championship with that dominate 1979 team. His favorite player from that squad was Major Ogalvie and his wife gave him the ok to name their son after the Tide runningback.
Major Applewhite was born July 29, 1978.
