On 740theteam this morning, the host, Dan Sileo, an ex-Cane and one of the most despicable creatures on Earth was interviewing Brad Culpepper, ex-Gator and Buc. Naturally he asked him about us hiring Coach Saban, probably expecting Culpepper to rake both BAMA and CNS over the coals. Instead, he said......."I don't blame him a bit, it's ALABAMA. It's not like it's Illinois or some other program like that. It's ALABAMA."

Sileo ended the interview almost immediately. :p_lol: :p_lol: :p_lol:

Re: Not what he expected.

Thats the thing about Alabama. The tradition, national respect and associated prestige can become briefly dormant when entrusted to the wrong hands. However, the program's storied history can't be rewritten or erased just because rival fans and their willing accomplices in the media try to convince the world that Bama is suddenly a third-tier program or an unwanted child.

More people than want to admit it understand that with the right coach, the Bama mystique can attract players like no other program in the south. Better than Florida. Better than Miami. Better than LSU. Better than Georgia. Better than FSU. Better than Tennessee and certainly better than Auburn.

Smart, unbiased people know these things. They know it because they've seen it before. RTR.

Re: Not what he expected.

yeah, i sure wish the IDIOTIC media would follow the lead of Wayne H., Jason Taylor, Culpepper, etc.

instead they write articles like this

could they really be surprised, EVERYONE knew petrino wanted to go to the NFL. he also just signed a long extension....but if i knew he'd end up there, could the players really be shocked?

[Petrino didn't lie in the embarrassing way Saban did last week, but Petrino is the latest in a very long line of coaches who — at one point in time — professed their undying love for a school, only to leave a short while later when the economic leverage had been maximized. Petrino got more money out of Louisville late in 2004 with his LSU leverage play.

well petrino didn't have to get asked questions almost EVERY day for a month--they fired mora, what about a week ago?? although petrino seemed to be a pro at getting himself a raise at louisville...do you think he will be attacked like saban was? probably not.

Re: Not what he expected.

It seems almost ALL players and coaches seem to understand. The media just doesn't "get it".

Exactly. People expect recruits to not be able to believe Saban because he's such a 'LIAR' now. I think football players and their families are smart enough to see through the smoke that's being put out there. Which is why there is so much interest in our program now by potential recruits.

They get it...they just refuse to hear/believe it. We will never be a media darling like USC or ND. Its no coincidence that those 2 schools also have a lot of graduates in sports media.

I hate the way ESPN operates. They should just stick to reporting sports news. They don't need to be in the business of helping or hurting a team in recruiting, criticizing teams for hiring/firing coaches, or assassinating someone's character for making a career decision. Leave that to the Paul Finebaums of the world. ESPN has lost a level of professionalism it once (and very briefly) had.

Let them keep providing us with the free national press. No way we could buy this type of coverage. The only ones upset by this hire are Auburn, LSU, and the Press. No one else seems to have a problem with it. Ahhh well, you know what they say if they can't take a joke...

I got hung up on by John Kincaid today. He was going on how Petrino was a good hire for the Falcons never once criticizing him for lying to his players and fans. Kincaid went on how Petrino dreamed of coaching in the NFL and he created his system to reach that goal.
I had to call in and mention to him that Petrino was a snake. I never brought up Saban's name. All I said was that Petrino was a liar. That he lied to his players about him never wanting to leave Louisville after he met about the LSU job. Kincaid got all huffed up and said, you are just trying to compare Saban and Petrino. There is no evidence of Petrino ever lyeing to his players! I responded by saying that all he had to do was a little research and as far as Saban goes, he conveniently disregarded Chris Mortensen when he corrected Kincaid. Kincaid then hung up and went on a short tyrade about Petrino was much better than Saban.

If you go to Wikipedia.com and look up Nick Saban, it says that he told a reporter from SI.com that Alabama was his dream job. Dont know if its true, but I wouldn't be surprised....

I heard every word, you are exactly correct... word for word.

I thought, "WHAT THE HELL"

Bama haters can stick it because they know they opportunities to make fun of the Crimson Tide, and speak of our love of the program with ridicule are about to come to an abrupt hault. They are on the clock so to speak.
