Facilities in the SEC

To be fair, imagine the impression our visiting fans who enter campus from 10th Ave. must get. You go directly through the hood and by a cemetary and then right up to Bryant Denny. Sad part is, that's probably one of the easiest entrances/exits on campus and tons of fans go that way.

Also, our elephant sound isn't exactly pleasant to the ears either...

Also, imagine visiting fans' reactions in the old Legion Field Days. You didn't go thru the hood to get there, it was in the hood. USC does not have one of the top gameday settings in the SEC, but it ain't one of the worst either, as I posted it's very middle of the pack.

As a former member of the Vanderbilt Band (PLEASE DON"T LAUGH OR INSULT, but rather sympathize with me for my suffering!!!!), I've been to most of them(not Miss State or Arkansas)....Obviously, Bryant Denny stands out as the best to me now! Not the best stadium, but by far the best atmosphere was the grove at Ole Miss. Crappiest: Kentucky....an overgrown highschool stadium in a bad place with a poor traffic and parking plan...Vanderbilt's isn't so hot either!!! I don't know that they'll ever renovate....it's just not where they want to put their money, and it is in a really tight spot to expand!

our crowd is typically less than lively.

I have got to say...I was at the Bama - Vandy game this year (in the student section, which I know is louder than the rest), and I thought it was pretty loud!!!
I have NO DOUBT, that with Saban, everyone in a seat (unless they're not a Bama fan or student) will have more than enough to get lively about!

Whats the deal with Michigan? According to the rivals link I listed their expanding again to 108,000! Do they have some kind of inferiority complex
where they think they have to have the biggest stadium in 1a? I mean at what point do they stop just building more crap on top of the current crap? Their stadium is just one big boring bowl with a viewpoint as if youd be looking down at earth from the moon seeing dots running around.
I dont believe that anyone anywhere can sellout a stadium at 108,000 every single Saturday. The state of Mich and their fanbase isnt that big even though
Im sure they have one of the biggest group of fans.

Just so you know....Vanderbilt's team said that they were underwhelmed with the atmosphere in the "Big House" at Michigan--it didn't compare to the SEC.

I think as far as stadium quality we hands down have the best in the SEC right now and pretty high up nationally, as far as crowd, well that depends, if we are playing crappy teams our crowd isn't as into it if we are playing good teams and playing well it gets loud. I think one reason lsu is loud is because they have 10000 more students than ALabama does. I also firmly believe that if someone around you tells you to sit down or to stop screaming that you should be allowed to call security and have them thrown out of the stadium. ALL IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

Bamagirlvandy

Cool info. Thanks but who in your opinion has the best stadium in the sec?
I know Im a homer but as far as Ive studied info and research on all the sec stadiums ours only has one weakness as Mod Tide-hsv stated and that would be the way the lower bowl was originally constructed and the fact that its not standing straight up to hold in more noise. But in my opinion that wont matter soon or later with the other expansion because itll be good enough not to mention I think we have the best stadium anywhere in the nation. :biggrin2:

Note that I was only addressing acoustics with that remark. Once that slope is in the original stands, there's not much to be done. The upper decks can be made more vertical, but there's a limit to that. Interestingly enough, our BB arena has the same flaw...

According to this site:

Tennessee as a better history? Well...maybe that site isn't THAT credible... ;)

Yeah thats what I meant. What in your opinion do you think the Univ.
will do when they expand the south endzone as far as structuring the upperdeck and the rest and have you heard anything definite?

The media proves again how stupid they are with their biased thinking
getting in the way. The four stadiums that this msnbc website ranked above us in structure are complete dumps compared to ours. As far as setting and history we easily own that category NOW as well. Oh yeah thats right Tenn has the deliverance river surrounding Neyland with boats swimming around. I dont even care about the fan ranking because thats based on individual case. What are these clowns going to say when we build the other end? The new plaza entrance and scenery alone makes the other 11 sec stadiums look like high school stadiums.

Made my 2nd trip to BDS in 2005 (first was in mid 80's as member of LSU Band). Was an awesome trip for me (LSU won in OT!!!). Aside from the fact that I was in the Upper Deck Tide Pride section with NO LSU fans within two miles of me, it was a great atmosphere.

Neyland stadium, which I visited for the first time in 2006, was a large crap-hole. I think it sucked how UThug puts the majority of visiting fans in the upper decks, whereas most other SEC schools give a large chunk of seating in the lower areas to the visiting team. I know Bama and LSU have at least 5000-7000 lower seats for the other team. Crowd noise is WAYYYY overrated. BDS had more on them. The ramp and concourse areas were built for midgets and Ethiopians. 18 inches is VERY generous as far as seat width goes. There was literally no room for my friend to sit on the row we were assigned. They have pretty decent facilities...got a tour of their practice facilities, indoor facility, locker rooms, weight rooms, etc. They are not as new or modern as some schools, because they were light years ahead of everybody 10 years ago, and everyone else has caught up and passed them---they set the standard in the SEC, I think.

Looking forward to returning to BDS this year!

Tennessee- Huge stadium that can get very loud but you are sitting so close to everyone they can smell your bourbon as you are mixing it

Amen to that description. I got the old fashioned heave ho and was escorted out for having bourbon after some UT fans told on me on their way out the gate at halftime of the 2002 game in Knoxville. I was able to sneak back in the gate at the end of the 3rd quarter so that I could join the Bama fans for the celebration.

This is a great thread! LOL. I'm going try to start one over on the Gatorsports message board and maybe a few other boards. You guys maybe a little biased but that's understandable. I say the SEC is the best not because of the natural scenery or cleanliness or bar proximety but because of the fans. We are all so biased, arrogant, cocky, and passionate about our football. Alabama hates Auburn and UT. Auburn hates Alabama. LSU hates Ole Miss and now Alabama. Florida hates UGA and UT and our out of conference yearly foe from tallacrappy. And everybody hates the Gators. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

hoorah, but you left out "auburn hates Georgia, Tennessee hates Vandy, Mississippi State and Ole miss hate Bama (and each other), Auburn hates LSU, and LSU hates auburn (more)."

I hate to agree with a previous post but I've often found Tiger Stadium to be less than clean at times. I've traveled to 6 LSU/Bama games in Tuscaloosa and BD was usually mild but was every bit as loud as Tiger Stadium from start to finish during the '05 OT game.

An older lesbian couple sat behind us in '03 in the lower area of Section A. We were just a few rows from the field. They really showed some hate and gave us hell the whole game, but they were fun to listen to. Anyone know those two?

The LSU/Bama "rivalry", if it can be called that, hasn't been one of hate such as LSU/Ole .... or LSU/Auburnt.
