than Roll Tide! Seriously, I absolutely loved the effort baby! Wow- great game, great effort, period. These guys played the most inspired basketball that i have seen them play all year. Hate to lose it but these guys came to play and it showed. I don't think that I have been more proud of a loss than I am right now. It's not the NCAAs but it's still a tournament. We didn't fold our tent and go home, we played baby. Good job guys. Seriously, I'm glad you had it in you.

I'll second that!

Its beyond me how anyone could be happy with that performance last night. We should have beat them by 12-15 points even on their court. Ball handling is atrocious. At least we are young and can improve that part of our game, that is if the coaching staff is capable of developing a guard or two besides Steele. Oh well on to Football and maybe a little baseball. Roll Tide!

We're not tough enough to close out the game in the final minutes.

We've seen it time & time again this year, up 5 at Ole Miss & lose, up 5 on UT in regulation and overtime in the final 3 minutes and lose. Last night, up 4 with 2:00 left in regulation and lose.

At any point in those games, one defensive stop & a rebound would have won it, but we keep the door a little ajar for the opposing team and they find a way to win.

A variable that Gottfried's teams never overcome. Year after year, our road record is dismal. If we were playing Southwest Alabama State Tech on the road, our chances wouldn't be good.

Now that's just silly. This is the NIT and we were on the road facing a better seed. The effort was good.

Bama played tougher than they have in recent weeks, but they still blew a 9 point lead late in regulation when they really had UMass on the ropes, and still had way too many brain fart turnovers and porous defense. The game was much closer than I ever imagined it would be. Gottfried better start developing some more of those "great recruits" so that next year's team is not a one-man band riding on Steele's shoulders alone.

Okay, I am ready to be knocked around here by the Bama basketball faithful, who see nothing but good in everything the team and Coach Gottfried does. Let me begin by saying that I am an Alabama fan and want them to win in every sport, but to read some of the comments about how proud people are of the performance from last night turns my stomach. Proud of what, the 17 turn overs and not just the number, but the fact that they were made at key moments in the game, moments when we could have put UMass away... the number of offensive rebounds we gave up, resulting in second-chance points... our ability to give up the lead late in the first and second halves, and then over-time? I cannot get excited about our "not folding the tent", but playing our hearts out in a loss, a loss that shouldn't have been. I saw this same thing in too many games during the season and am tired of it. Whether it's the players or the coaching (all the way up to Coach Gottfried), something has to change. But, as long as the fans continue to make excuses for the playing and the coaching, we will never have the team Alabama deserves. I hardly ever comment on here, more into seeing what other people think, but I had to speak my piece this time. Now, let the flaming begin. :BigA:

"nothing more to say" is right. this post and the fact that people are willing to agree with it says a mouthful about where this basketball program is. i for one hope this mentality changes sooner rather than later.

I agree, if they can give this "effort" last night where has it been all year, sounds like the driving force, CMG, wasn't exactly driving.

I was at the houndstooth watching the game and when we got up by 9, a fight broke out(the first one I've ever seen in that bar). Well it was kinda more of a scuffle. Bartenders handled it real well. So pretty much the whole bar runs outside to see what's going on. Just me and a few others actually stay in to watch the game.

At that point UMASS goes on its run. I say this fight changed the outcome of the game. We had something going on in that bar. So you can all thank those guys who couldn't get along.

Also, when Riley's three was good, It was like we were at the game. People were jumping and hugging. I kept thinking to myself " I can't wait to see this place erupt when we win." But Nope.

March 24th: Spring practice

Roll Tide!

I don't know man...I've heard all year how we have SO much talent but have underachieved, but from what I saw last night...UMASS was more talented and quicker than our team, but our guys played hard...down to the last second. I give them props. What you have with Alabama is a supporting cast without the star.

Well here is one place I have never posted before. I too saw good effort last night, but two things stood out to me during the game. UMASS had 0 field goals in about a 7 minute period when we were up by 9 BUT still managed to cut the deficit to 2 on free throws. How can we not open more of a gap with a team that had 0 field goals in 7 minutes?

In overtime, I saw the difference between Steele and Hollinger. Hollinger forced the ball inside hoping to draw the foul while Steele would have known Hendrix was right behind him ready to slam the ball home and maybe ice the game.

What a frustrating year.

That last basket and lack of pressure on the ball really sticks with me. Even a "tired" poor defensive team can line up with pressure and force 3 - 4 seconds in the backcourt. I saw no denial defense, just people hanging around down on the other end. Sort of "rubbed" me the wrong way. Even if they beat the press, I sort of feel like it is the job of the coach to put his/her team in a position to win the game. We were in a position to "lose" the game.

It was a great effort by the players. Roll Tide!

We got beat by UMASS @ UMASS :)

The location is a variable...

The point i was going for was explaining to myself how losing to Umass was a good loss.....oh because it was in the NIT and on the road in a tough enviroment against GREAT TEAM!!!!

even if somehow you were to convince me that last night was a "great effort" (which i doubt), i say where were these great efforts when we got ROLLED by a highly mediocre auburn team TWICE and absolutely failed to show up for a gut check game on the final weekend of the season against state??? a couple good efforts in those games and this team isn't even making the trip to lovely amherst, mass....cuz we're too busy dancing.

That's one of the reasons I posted. I'm impressed with the effort and the way they battled last night. This only solidifies the fact that this team mailed it in a few times this year. While I am proud of this specific effort, it does beg the question.......
