Promises to program by Athlectic Dept.?

Re: Promises to program by Athletic Dept.?

This is somewhat off topic and looking a bit ahead, I suppose, but the 2008 season will mark the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest teams in Alabama history, and the University should make an effort to commemorate it. Hopefully they can round up as many of the players as possible (Dave Magadan, Craig Shipley, Frank Velleggia, Alan Dunn, Fermin Lake, Allan Stallings, et al) for a pre-game ceremony or something to that effect, at the very least.

Something should definitely be done to recognize Dave Magadan's Golden Spikes-winning 1983 season, the single greatest offensive performance in the history of college baseball. Major League history is marked by several "famous numbers" representing some significant statistical accomplishment: 755 (& 714); 56; 2,632 (& 2,130), etc. For Alabama Baseball history, there is one that stands above all others: .525

Very good post JoJo, that has to be one of the best teams in the history of Alabama Baseball. Here's one that will rival that. The 1997 team. This team is coming up on their 10th anniversary. It would be nice to see the university honor both this coming spring. If they do, I hope they honor them with a plaque or certificate. No cake's !

CJW was allowed to hire Allen Rice as an Administative Assistant and re-hire Lane Ogelsby (Dirt) as full-time grounds man dedicated to baseball only. Early word is that the turf from behind home will be gone. He has also hired a new volunteer coach.
Other improvements are yet to be seen.

I also want to say that, the media broadcasting sucks, I live in Northport, about 15 minutes from the baseball park, and I can't even pick the game up on radio. This is a shame for the University of Alabama. I know we have a media department, and what are they doing about this situation? Does anyone even care about it.

Anyhow ROLL TIDE ROLL

Radio coverage was hit pretty hard on page 1. At the bare minimum the coveage needs to be changed. Great play-by-play and color guys, but coverage is worse than horrible.

I noticed the other day that the plastic conduit piping near the flag pole was capped with duct tape. For those that don't know, the pipes were installed during our last expansion for a future scoreboard. Maybe we are close to getting one. I question the location for this will block the view of "The Right Field Lounge".

Don't worrk rk, not a penny of your tuition will go to increased seating, or to anything else that goes into the Joe. That will be paid for from Athletic Department funds. Your tuition does not go to support athletics at UA. To the contrary, the Athletic Department generally makes a huge contribution to the general fund at UA every year. If you are going to complain about general funds being spent unwisely, you may want to pick on the quarter-million dollar fountains that are being installed on campus.

Technically, a small part of student tuition does go to the AD.. It is a fee for subsidizing the cost of student tickets to football games.. A few hundred dollars is paid by every student to the AD regardless of if they buy tickets or not.

You can look at that any way you want, but students do pay. Which I'm sure the money does go into their general fund.

Rode by today and it looks like the new scoreboard will be erected soon...in left field.

Yes, the new scoreboard is going up. Supposedly it will have fantastic graphics. They will also be re-doing the field area behind homeplate and putting in new nets. Longer term, there are plans for skyboxes and a club area.

Drove by this morning and workers were busy on the scoreboard construction. Also went into the stadium and noticed the newly laid sod. The grass looked beautiful. Around the back of the batters box is the new turf. About 10 feet in depth that wraps around. Behind that is grass. They are painting the pressbox exterior inside and outside. JoJo, still no hyphen between Sewell and Thomas. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, many radio stations fall into the trap of thinking nobody cares about anything but football. Another problem is that a lot of stations may carry Atlanta Braves. I believe you can listen to the games on the internet, though. My internet connection sucks, so I have to rely on live stats
