Re: OT Matt Patchan is no longer interested in Alabama

I am still optimistic Alabama will land Tyler Love, and one or two of the following:

Antoine McClain
Barrett Jones
Joe Looney

Two or three of those guys to go along with commitment John Michael Boswell, and greyshirt signees William Vlachos, and Patrick Crump and Alabama will be more than alright on the offensive line.

Tyler is really impressed with CUM and the Florida system. I hope Saban can turn the Tide.

At 6'5 335, TJ Barnes looks to be a NG in the Coach Nick Saban mold. Great size but it will be interesting to see what kind of athleticism comes with. Obviously enough to get an offer. Anyone have anymore info on this guy.

from highlights, he moves good enough for a kid that big. He's big enough/quick enough that he's going to get double teams, which is what we want. Plus, he's just a hole-plug.

Didn't really know where to put this, but here's a nice article about our recent camps from the perspective of prospect Seandre Richardson.

Khalid Wilson (6'2 295 DT) shows an offer from us on Scout. Also Scout shows us as the only big school to offer. I like to see us offer another DT because we need some big boys up the middle, especially if the coaches feel he is worthy of an offer.

OT Lucas Nix committed to Pitt according to Rival's. Kind of surprising to me at least, although at least he didn't choose UcheaT. :biggrin2:

Lucas Nix's Rival's Profile

I thought his brother was already at Pitt. If this is the same kid I'm thinking of, then it's not that surprising when he already had family there, but I might be thinking of the wrong guy.

Re: 2008 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated)

Yeah, his brother's a linebacker at Pitt, and he was considered a Pitt lock.

Yeah you're right. Sorry guys, brain fart on my part!
Still, at least he isn't going to UcheaT! :biggrin2:

Re: 2008 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated)

Quinn Sanford makes it a trifecta
Quinn Sanford (OL, South Panola, MS) - South Panola gave Ole Miss its third verbal commitment today.

"Yea, we decided to come over to Ole Miss," added Quinn Sanford.

The "we" reference includes two other teammates.

"Me, Tig (Darius Barksdale) and Bud (Bud Barksdale) all committed today."

Re: 2008 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated)

Interesting that the Packer article mentioned Coach O as the best DL coach in the country. With a coach saying that in an article means that he probably told the kid that many times, but a claim like that cannot be substantiated. The only possible stat to make that claim would be the number of DL in the NFL that O coached (all from USC most likely). Has Ole Miss had a DL unit that has been put in the top half of the SEC in the last two years?? I know these aren't O's recruits that he's using, but if he's so good, wouldn't they show some improvement at the position?

Re: 2008 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated)

Interesting story from last night. My stepson, Ryan Benzick, 6'6" OT, 330 lb, from Louisville attended Michigan's camp a week ago and had a great showing. One of the coaches helping to run the O Line for the Michigan camp was from Louisville and is an asst. coach for their Arena Football Team, The Fire. He got very interested in my stepson and invited him out to the Fire's practices to meet the guys and watch techniques, drills, etc, that could help him. We went out there last night to watch their practice. The head coach immediately came over and introduced himself and told my son that he could not believe he was only 17 years old. He then asked him about the recruiting process, etc. The coach started telling my son to have fun, look at all the schools, really stressed academics and feeling at home, etc. He took a lot of time and was just a tremendous young man. When he asked who my son was interested in and where he was visiting, my son told him Michigan, Tenn, South Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky, and then he said "Alabama". The coach just lit up and began to expound upon how great it would be for him to play at Alabama, how great the school, the fans, the facilities, etc. are. Turns out the head coach is Tommy Johnson, Alabama class of '94, and played on championship team of '92. He was just a very enjoyable person who took a lot of time with my son and we certainly appreciated it. I just wanted to let you all know what a great representative and ambassador you have out there.

Thanks for the story and best of luck to you and Ryan in his search for a school that feels like home. Congrats to him on making Kentucky's 2007 Tremendous 26 list.
