Just read this on the rolltide.com website, and really like the quote:

On Coach Saban’s coaching philosophy:
“He told me one day in practice that I’ve got to be able to walk out there and hit a pylon from 50 yards away if that’s what is asked of me and that you have be like an assassin, ready at any time: one shot one kill.”

Coming into this season I thought Tiffin was going to be the same ole Tiffin that missed 3 fgs and an xp against Arkansas last season, he has definately improved, he is proof that there is great amounts of improvement. At the beginning of hte year I wouldn't expect him to go out and hit a 52 yarder in the last seconds against Auburn, but I see him following in his fathers footsteps in two weekends.

Without many of us realizing it, the kid has had a really good season. More from rolltide.com:

LEIGH TIFFIN

* Alabama sophomore kicker Leigh Tiffin (Muscle Shoals, Ala.) has made nine consecutive field goals and now leads the SEC and ranks third nationally with 2.10 field goals made per game this season.
* Tiffin is also fourth in the SEC and tied for 22nd nationally with 9.3 points per game.
* For the season, Tiffin has made 21-of-28 (.750) field goal attempts this season, both career highs.
* He has not missed a field goal since missing a 48-yard kick in the second quarter against Tennessee on Oct. 27.
* Since the fourth quarter of the Arkansas game (Sept. 15), Tiffin has made 16 (88.9 percent) of his last 18 field goal attempts.
* Tiffin leads the SEC with eight field goals of 40 or more yards this season.
* He is 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) from 40 yards are longer this season and his 66.7 percent success rate is second in the league.

TIFFIN EYES SCORING RECORD

* Tiffin has collected 93 points in the first 10 games of the season and is seven points shy of tying single-season scoring record for an Alabama kicker.
* Phillip Doyle currently holds the record with 100 points during the 1989 season. Doyle converted 34 PATs and 22 FGs during his junior season.
* Tiffin has 30 PATs and 22 FGs this season through 10 games.
* Tiffin is also seven points shy of becoming the seventh player in school history to score 100 points in a season. All-American running back Shaun Alexander scored an Alabama record 144 points (24 TDs) in 1999.

TIFFIN EYES FIELD GOAL RECORD

* Tiffin has made 21 of 28 field goal attempts this season, leaving him three shy of the single-season school record.
* Doyle holds the record with 24 field goals during the 1990 season. He had 29 attempts.
* Michael Proctor and Doyle are tied for second place on the UA single-season list with 22 field goals. Proctor hit 22 of 29 field goals in 1993, while Doyle made 22 of 25 in 1998.
* Tiffin’s 21 field goals this season currently rank fourth on the UA single-season charts.

FIFTY-FIFTY

* Tiffin went 4-for-4 on field goals against Mississippi State, including two from 50 yards or more.
* His 51-yarder in the first quarter tied for the ninth-longest in school history and was Alabama's first 50-yard-plus field goal since Neal Thomas made a 50-yarder against Tennessee in 2000.
* Tiffin then made a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter, becoming the second Alabama kicker ever to make two 50 yarders in the same game.
* His father, Van, was the other, with a school-record 57-yarder and a 51-yarder against Texas A&M in 1985.
* The elder Tiffin also had one 53-yard field goal, two 52-yarders and three 51-yarders in his career, though all those came when college kickers still used a tee for field goals.
* Alabama's record for the longest field goal without a tee is a 55-yarder by Ryan Pflugner against Arkansas in 1998.
* Tiffin has two of the Crimson Tide’s seven 50-yard field goals without a kicking tee. Neal Thomas holds the single-season record with three 50-yard kicks in 2000.

its amazing what confidence from a coach will do for a kicker, huh

and I have to admit, I was one of the ones who was putting him down after the Arkansas game last year, but so far, he has been one of the bright spots of the team, I think too much pressure was put on him last year, I mean a few months prior to that, the kid was kicking in high school in front of 2,000 people not 90k+

Sorry, I don't get the math. 22 * 3 = 66 points on FG's. 30 * 1 = 30 points on PAT. 66 +30 = 96 not 93. Either the numbers are off or he is 4 points away from the record not 7. ???

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like he only needs 4 points, based on their numbers.

I know that everyone has to be pleased with the way LT has matured. He's growing into a real asset, and I hope he continues to improve. He seems like a nice kid, and showed a lot of character after the flak he must have taken in the wake of last year's Arkansas game.

So this is NOTHING against LT personally, but is anyone really happy that LT is on pace for a record-setting year? When your kicker is setting records, it means that your offense stinks. Personally, I'd rather LT be kicking a WHOLE lot more PAT's than 50-yd field goals ...
