One could argue that WV is not Southern as they did split from Virginia during the Civil War. So, if a state not only didn't side with the Confederacy, but fought against her, it could exclude it from being Southern. Not necessarily my opinion. ;)

Presently, WV is much more Southern than yankee, so I claim 'em if anyone asks.

What is wrong with these people? You would rather be at Rutgers than Michigan, the all time winningest program in D1. What, are you afraid of pressure? Are you afraid you can't get the job done? Rutgers affords you a better environment in which to perform your job? Garbage. I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for a lot of coaches out there. Not for their supposed "loyalty" to their current jobs but for their guts. I think, due to the way the road is currently set up to get to the national title game, that good coaches are scared to go to traditional programs that expect to win.

Why would you want to stay at Rutgers? Wake Forest? West Virginia? South Florida? Also ran programs in also ran leagues. In that sense I tip my hat to guys like Saban, Meyer, Tressel, and others who aren't afraid to go to places where winning is expected and know what the consequences will be if they don't get the job done. These piddly coaching jobs are paying too much money and coaches are riding those gravy trains instead of trying to rise to the top of their professions. I think a lot of coaches need to grow a pair.

Don't put West Virginia in the same category as Rutgers, Wake Forest and South Florida.

WVU is 15th in all-time wins in NCAA history and ahead of teams like UCLA, Clemson, Boston College, Wisconsin and such in winning percentage. They've made BCS bowl appearances in two of the past 3 years.

In my mind, that's exactly where WVU belongs. And the only reason they've been in the BCS two of the past three is because they play in a watered down Big East. And yes, I saw them play Georgia. I will concede their all time wins number to you. Although it would be interesting to see what the last 4 years have done to their mobility in that ranking.

If you honestly think WVU is in the same category as Wake Forest, South Florida and Rutgers... well, I'm not sure you ought to be posting on any football forum. WVU, as you noted, beat the SEC champ 2 years ago and this year went 10-2 and beat the crap out of an MSU team Bama hasn't been able to beat in two years while WVU has beaten them by big margins both times.

Wake is 96th in all time wins, Rutgers is 38th (because they've played the most games in NCAA history) and South Florida hasn't gotten 50 wins yet.

Wake is 105th in winning percentage, Rugters is 78th and South Florida has only been around this century.

So you can't put them in the same category as WVU, you just can't.

Maybe he didn't like the AD. Maybe his wife didn't get accepted there coming out of H.S. Maybe he doesn't like affirmative action. Maybe he hates the color blue. Maybe he likes Jersey (eh... on second thought). Maybe anything. Just because a job looks good to one person doesn't mean it does to everyone.
 
Hey, I am just waiting for ESPN do a skit for Mich. & Arky like they did us last year with Bama...with all the so-called coaches tell Bama "No" or "Not interested".

Don't hold your breath. I remember Jim Rome railing about how no one wanted to come to Alabama on his tv show. Of course, he looked like a horse's ... once Saban came, which is probably part of the reason ESPN and co. rip Bama so bad.
 
Kinda makes me feel bad for Michigan. I know the whole deal with Rich Rod was embarrassing for Bama for a couple of days until we landed Saban. I just hate to see a tradition rich school like Michigan have to go through this sort of rejection. Brutal.
 
i don't really want Michigan to go through the espn 'noone wants to coach there, it's not a good job anymore' BS we had to go through --but having said that...it's just not fair that they don't have to!

but ours ended up a very happy ending...and i think Michigan is running out of options for that to happen.
 
Schiano had better not screw up any time soon or he could really regret this. Since he doesn't work there, he can't have a deal with PSU a la Jimbo at FSU, can he?
