Both of my parents attended UT, but they loved me enough to pay for me to attend Bama. Didn't take long...

Because I would have been thrown out of the house had I not been. I was born that way and raised that way. I still can't believe people raise kids any other way, it is not fair to the children.

I had no choice. It was either Alabama or Auburn..... and I think we all know what the right choice was. I was also scared into that decision. I was scared that if I picked that other school I wouldnt have a place to live. Thanks DAD!

I was an Auburn fan until 1972 (My dad went to both UA ans AU). The first year I pulled for the Tide was the Punt Bama Punt. I enrolled at UA in Jan 1973 and graduated in 1975. Once you go there you have no choice, you are hooked for life. I used to like AU okay when they weren't playing UA until the internet came along and all their fan came out of the closet.

Re: What Made You Become A Alabama Fan???

What a truly great topic for me at least. It all started with a simple move, a parent getting a job, and one truly wonderful color, yes crimson. Those close to me can feel in the blanks and write a book one day. Oh, what great memories, funny how this time of year makes one reflect on the good of ones life. I am just thankful that I was able to have the opportunity to become a Tide Fan. Can not wait to Surf that great TIDE WAVE with most of you that is coming, coming back. Look I can almost see it coming now just near the sunrise, if you look hard enough you can see it coming and I hope plenty get ready for it. You, better start paddling now!

Harry Gilmer, he was my first sports hero and as such, it was only natural that I would also be a BAMA fan. I devoured the sports section as soon as I learned to read and Harry Gilmer was quite the deal back then. I'd love to know just how many kids became BAMA fans because of Gilmer.

Along about that time I was also pretty fascinated by the HC up at Kentucky who had wrestled a bear as a youngster. Funny how things work out.:BigA::tongue:

Re: What Made You Become A Alabama Fan???

When I want to really want to mess with a barner I tell them I am a Bama fan because I wa born and raised in Alabama not Album. Then I ask them why they are not Bama fans instead of Album fans. They can never give a good answer. They have not figured there is NO good reason NOT to be a Bama fan.
My feelings are felt in a shirt I wear that says on the front, "I'm a Bama Fan" and on the back it says "AND PROUD OF IT"
There is nothing better than being a Bama fan.

Re: What Made You Become A Alabama Fan???

I was born a BAMA fan. I was the third generation to graduate from THE University. My grandfather was the biggest influence on me. He loved BAMA football and Coach Bryant. I can fondly remember sitting in the floor and listening to the game on the radio or watching on TV. We would have myself, three older brothers, three cousins that lived next door, my Dad, and just about any other person in the neighborhood who wanted to listen/watch. When it was time for me to attend college, my grandfather told me I had TWO choices and they were 1. ALABAMA or 2. ALABAMA. So of course I chose ALABAMA. We have since had the fourth generation of our family graduate. I have told my daughters (ages 12 & 11) that they can go to any college but my checks were going to BAMA!
