Since 98.8% of this board thinks it's time for a change. I want to hear who we can seriously get to come here that makes the program better the day he steps on campus. I know Legion Field wants Mike Anderson so he doesn't need to respond.

For those pointing to the Bruce Pearl mid-major formula I would like to remind you Tennessee struck out with the same formula when they hired Buzz Peterson. Arkansas struck out with Stan Heath. Georgia is striking out with Felton and I would argue Auburn is no better off today than they were when Lebo stepped on campus.

For the T.R. Dunn crowd, please address why his only head coaching stint was one year in the WNBA and he left his "beloved" Alabama to be an assistant again in the NBA.

I'll start us off, if Tubby wants to come stick it to UK then I'm all for that. I doubt he does though.

Regarding TR, I hear that it was a question of salary.

Greg Marshall, formerly of Winthrop, now at Wichita State.

Bob McKillop of Davidson is one of the best coaches in the country, though he's more likely to head northeast than southeast.

And without even knowing the names . . . someone off the staff of Duke, Kansas, UCLA, Carolina.

All that said, Miller and Ford should be at the top of anyone's list.

I'd also like to hear everyone's expectations for the program, just out of curiosity. It's interesting how florida raised the bar for basketball programs at football schools in the SEC.

Ford is the heir apparent at UK as soon as they fire Gillispie (which may be sooner than later).

Why would Miller leave Xavier for Bama? The Xavier name isn't as recognizable, but their hoops program (#20 in the Forbes Most Valuable College Basketball Teams) is bigger than Bama's and in better financial shape than UCLA, UConn, and Florida.

The same reasons Skip Prosser left and Thad Motta before him . . .
Better leagues, better exposure, better talent, better resume, bigger paychecks.

Baskeball is king at Xavier. But when Cincinnati is at its normal level, Xavier is not even king of its own city.

Let's not kid ourselves. The SEC is a big time basketball league. I sometimes feel our hoops insecurities partially blind us to the fact that this would be a very attractive position.

If -- and a very big if at that -- the job comes open, we will have ample opportunities to fill with a veteran coach or play a hunch on an up-and-comer.

There will be absolutely no reason to low-ball ourselves.

So do you think the Bama job is a better job than the Arkansas job? Arkansas boasts a national championship and first class basketball facilities and they didn't exactly have people lining up to take that job in that circus of a coaching search.

We dummies who would like for TR Dunn to be considered know that TR understands that you have to start off by avoiding losing, i.e., playing defense, before you can win. We know he was an All-NBA defensive player for several years. We also know that the best defensive team Gottfried had by far was when TR was here.

As to why he left, I could not say since I have not talked to him. However, I can easily see why someone who has "been there, done that" at the highest level of the game in the world would tire of Gottfried's schtick. What was TR going to learn from a guy who can't coach college kids?

If you want to argue Gottfried's coaching ability, be ready to talk about why we can neither inbound the ball nor defend against the inbounds play, why we go to pieces against any sort of a press, and why we have yet to learn how to defend a high ball screen, for openers.

Let me reverse the question: Do you think the UT job was a good one before Pearl arrived -- years of losing records and a cavernous orange building as empty as a carved-out pumpkin?

How about Vandy? Better job than Alabama? Better recruiting base? Better pay scale? Better facilities? Hardly. But Kevin Stallings is doing alright.

My point is this: I don't think "Mark is the best we can do" is valid, nor a valid argument for keeping a coach that's leading a stagnating program.

First things first: Is Mark the guy? If so, fine. If not, let's find the one who is.

The top assistant coach at Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis State.....someone starving for an opportunity who know's what championship basketball requires.
It's different than football. If you've got the knowledge you don't have to have the name.
And you dang sure don't have to be "Family".
I don't ever want to hear that word mentioned again in any coaching search at Bama.

If I recall correctly, TR left because he had the opportunity to put a couple more years in the NBA pension plan (and increase his eventual retirement) while making as much (or more) current income as Bama could pay him.

Duane Reboul is sitting around doing nothing and I would take him over anybody listed so far.
