Realistic Replacement list

I am a huge BAMA fan and it would kill me, but I will not cheer for a Travis Ford team. I am from Henderson KY where his sister lives with her husband and children. Travis is from Madisonville KY about 30 miles south of here. I played against him in high school and he was a complete jerk then. I gave him a couple of more chances to redeem himself. I was the program director at the Y in Henderson and his nephew played 4 and 5 year old basketball there. Travis was in watching him play one day and told me he hoped we did not ruin everything he had taught him. I looked to find his nephew picking his nose and responded that he that move down. The last chance he got was a night I was at a restaurant where my sister waited tables and he was there. She asked him for an autograph for her stepson and he responded he does not sign autographs for the workers. He has no loyalty and no class. He bolted Missouri when it looked like they were going to be in trouble and then went to UK.
I know I am one of the few to take this stance, but I do believe we have a pretty good coach. Clemson beat us pretty bad, but Clemson will do that to a lot of people this year. We played hard against 2 top 10 teams and are sitting at 11-4 and well on our way to making it to the NCAA tourney without a proven point guard. For all of those who are ready to take down CMG just look at Kentucky this year and be careful what you wish for!!!!!!!

In three seasons as head coach at Southern Illinois, he has compiled a 78-26 record, won three Missouri Valley Conference championships and taken his team to the NCAA Tournament three times. Now 35, he was the youngest head coach in the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons.

In 2005, Lowery was the youngest coach to ever win Coach-of-the-Year honors in the Missouri Valley Conference. He won the award again in 2007

Coach Lowery should get a hard look, if we do go outside one day.

We should hire a coach who can..

1. Recruit
2. Graduate players
3. be a role model to the players
4. be a good family man
5. coach the team to the elite 8
6. try and attack LSU fans at football games

wait we already have one :rolleye2:

I would not be for hiring Tubby Smith at all. He could not recruit to Kentucky. If he can't recruit at Kentucky, he sure is not going to recruit at Alabama.

I like the idea of hiring Anthony Grant. He has proven himself and comes from a winning background. It is obvious that he is not going to be able to coach at Florida for many years because Donavan is entrenched there now, after rejecting the NBA. I doubt there is another college job Donavan wants.

I also agree that we could get a really good coach at Alabama. I believe that there would be a ground swell of support from fans if a big name coach were hired or even a great mid-major coach was hired after his stats were known by the public. There would not be 1,000's at the airport and lining the street or 92,00+ at midnight madness but there would be great support for him.

If there is a new coach, he would have a lot to live up to when it comes to graduation rates, quality of individuals recruited and signed and things such as this. CMG is a great face for Bama basketball in that he does a lot of good for the program and knows a lot of people in the industry. However, he is not a good coach in my opinion when it comes to x's and o's, motivation and things such as this.

In some ways, I would hate to see him go but I do believe it is time for a change.

Don't worry about responding to MasterShake. His opinions are extremely worthless. I don't listen to folks who call other Alabama fans "morons" as he did in another thread.

Ok I love watching Saluki basketball but the reason he wins is because his teams play defense and they win games 55-60. People knock CMG because he doesn't run an offense, but you have to give the man credit his teams normally score more than 60 points a game. I just don't know how much people would like to see that here at Alabama. I wouldn't mind it but fans love to see the scoreboard light up.

For the comment about Lowery's teams winning 60-55 and CMG's teams scoring over 60: I understand what you are saying. Everybody likes dunks and three pointers and up-and-down, racehorse basketball, and least when played correctly and under control by two fairly evenly matched teams. No question about it.

However, there is a reason that the saying "Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships" is a saying in the first place. It's because it's true. And wouldn't you rather win 60-55 than lose 90-83?

A hallmark of CMG's teams is that they do fine as long as they are shooting lights out or, by the same token, if the other team is really struggling (see Georgetown game). When the shooting goes, as it inevitably will, or when the other team starts hitting, they get beat because they cannot or will not play defense. Look at the difference between the two halves last night.

I could not have said it better. We haven't had a great defense in years.

I highly disagree...not with the candidate, but this point of view. I understand the idea, especially in football, but you can do both in basketball. Look at the top two teams in the country this year. Memphis and North Carolina have a high paced offense but the number one thing that their coaches preach is defense. Each team picks up a lot of uncontested baskets that you can't in a slow-paced, half court set.

I am probably showing my age. But I would like T R Dunn or Mike Davis. I do realize that he is at UAB. But he is recruiting very well at UAB. Imagine what he could do at Alabama.

Please explain how Mike Davis is recruiting "very well." His best players at UAB either followed him from Indiana or were provided a 10th chance at playing Div 1 basketball. Those guys are not examples of good recruiting. In fact, a few of the guys are examples of Mike Davis embracing thugs in order to win a few basketball games. He is NOT the answer.
