I stumbled across this on a gymnastics board, but this looks like it might be interesting. It involves the recruitment of Carl Moore, UF wide receiver. Apparently Urban was in daily contact with his girlfriend, a former UCLA gymnast, and interceded to get her a gymnastic scholarship to UF.

This is the article detailing how the gymnast ended up in Gainesville:

This is a blog written by a Salt Lake City sportswriter: http://blogs.sltrib.com/utes/ You have to scroll down to the January 16 entry.

This is third different story of Urbans creative recruiting tactics I've heard in the past two weeks. Sooner or later, it's gonna jump up and bite him in the butt.

Probably the worst that would happen to Uf is sanctions against the gymnastics team, which would be hilarious.

I always hear "Urban Invented". Where does this come from? I have missed something somewhere.

Florida fans tend to believe that Meyer invented the spread offense.

You can't really blame them though. They think football itself wasn't invented til 1990.

Taken from a Tebow Recruiting post back in Oct. 2005 (one of many around that time extolling the power of the virtues of Urban Meyer):

If I'm not mistaken, Urban Meyer was named after the pope named 'Urban'. Take that for what it's worth, if they are Catholic.

Wasn't it Pope Urban that invented the spread-option in the 14th century?

Yes. Montigny-sur-l'Hallue went 13-0 that year with François de' Maquereau running Pope Urban's spread-option attack.

However, the next season turned sour when the offensive coordinator was accused of turning an opposing defensive player into a gecko and was burned at the stake for witchcraft.

Still the funniest thing I've ever read anywhere.

i heard on the local sports talk radio in knoxville tn, a parent of a soph. had gotten a call from a coach from the gators. the parent had called in and didn't really want to disclose who had contacted his son. maybe a trend down there.
