My wife and I were eating out Sunday for lunch here in Jacksonville FL.

I noticed this big man with a nice Bama pull over walk by my table. When he walked by I told him that he looked like he could have played for Bama. He replied,"Yes sir I did."

I told him he had piqued my curiousity, that I was from Alabama and was a Bama fan and I hoped he wouldn't be offended if I asked who he was.

He was very cordial and replied, "Not at all, I played on the 92 team, I am Eric Curry."

We talked for a bit and went back to our tables.

Eric Curry and John Copeland, the bookends of the 92 defense that shook hands in the Miami backfield so many times after pile driving G. Toretta all night long.

I remember he played for the Jaguars his last two seasons in 1998 and 1999. He looks now like he could still play. It is trully amazing to see these professional atheletes up close and personal.

I got to thinking after he left that if he was 21 in 1992 that he would be approximately 36 years old now. That is much younger than I am but long in the tooth for an NFL defensive end.

He was the first big time Bama player I have ever met and he exuded the class that you would expect.
:)

Cool story.
I remember the pre-season football mag that summarized the D-line that year:
"Curry: If Curry doesn't get you, Copeland will.
Copeland: If Copeland doesn't get you, Curry will."
Great defense, that.

Great story- that's good stuff. What's ol' Eric Curry up to nowadays?

Best part of the story, & exactly what you would want & expect from a Bama grad & former player.............MONSTER on the field, gentleman off! :)

I took a trip down to Miami proper to watch that game. The comment I remember most came from a table next to me from a miami flannel mouth who spouted off all game and when the smoke cleared I heard him tell his buddies, and I quote "And I thought hurricane andrew was bad". Mr. Curry was one that made that un-forgettable quote possible, I will be forever gratefull to the "bookends".

I long for the day when Bama has another set of "bookends" like Curry and Copeland. Hopefully my wait will not be much longer:BigA::BigA:

I met him after a Jags/Tampa Bay scrimmage in Jax when he was with Tampa. He saw my Bama hat and came over and talked with me for about 5-10 mins-couldn't have been any nicer if he tried.

I met John Copeland at a Jocks radio on location(Jay B,Al Delgreco, and Bone) and he gave me a sighed photo of his sack on the Aubie QB. He was very nice, and made many comments about how we needed to have a coaching change long before MS was fired.By the way,he is one huge guy.

I met Eric a few weeks ago as well. He was on a flight that I was working. Funny thing was I knew right away who he was. He hasn't changed a bit.

He was flying from JAX to ATL then over to Huntsville for a speaking engagement. He owns his own business (can't for the life of me remember what it is) and also does speaking engagements. He also said he does some personal training. I just assumed he meant personal training as in the gym.

I told him thanks for providing one of the best nights of my life (the Sugar Bowl that is :D ). He talked about that night being surreal. He said he will NEVER forget it.

He also guaranteed a national championship in two years. I said I'd hold him to it.:)

We were eating at "The Potter's House Soul Food Bistro".

Mr. Curry was having lunch with his lovely wife and, I think, two small children. He certainly looked like somebody's personal trainer, lean and trim.

We exchanged "Roll Tide's" as we went our seperate ways.

I don't know for sure but I would guess that just about every player that started on the 92 defense played in the NFL.
