Tebow easily, but Stafford has a lot of potential.
Simply put, Stafford's stats are no more impressive than our own John Parker Wilson.
Wilson:
2006 - 2707 Passing Yards, 57.0% Completion Percentage, 17 TDs, 10 INTs, 126.51 QB Rating
2007 - 2846 Passing Yards, 55.2% Completion Percentage, 18 TDs, 12 INTs, 114.60 QB Rating
Stafford:
2006 - 1749 Passing Yards, 52.7% Completion Percentage, 07 TDs, 13 INTs, 108.99 QB Rating
2007 - 2523 Passing Yards, 55.7% Completion Percentage, 19 TDs, 10 INTs, 128.92 QB Rating
Even the most ardent Tide fan would suggest that Wilson is just an average college QB at best. Of course, stats don't tell the whole story. Stafford didn't have the November melt-down that Wilson had in 2007 where he practically lost three games for our team (LSU, the fumble that lead to the go-ahead TD; MSU, two INTs with one returned 102-yards for a TD; ULM, two INTs with one returned just short of the goal line). At one point in the ULM game, it had been over 8 quarters since a team scored our defense without Wilson's assistance. Earlier in the season, it was another Wilson fumble that ended the hope of a comeback against FSU. Of course, Stafford has had his own turnover problems but they seem to come at more opportune times (if there exist such a time) than Wilson's.
Sorry, no intention to make this Wilson-bashing thread, but it is worth pointing out how ridiculous comparing Stafford and Tebow really is for any commentator, columnist, etc. Tebow is the first 20-20 quarterback, he won the Heisman, and already has a MNC and SECCG title under his belt. Stafford is just an average QB on an excellent team (right now, at least).
