They won the bid and own the concessions. When they aren't making the margin they need to stay in business we will be back to Denny Dogs and Pepsi.

Haha. Well, the reason I ask is because at a concession yesterday, and I saw Coke listed at both $4 and $6. Did I miss out on a Special Edition Bear Bryant houndstooth plastic cup, or something?

They wont go back to Pepsi cause Coke was bidder on drink sales at UA. Again the all mighty dollar.

I bet the $6.00 Bama dog is a Hebrew National Dog, the kind they sell at the snack bar at Costco for $1.50 and you get a drink cup with refills :biggrin:
Seriously, this is the same outfit that does the concessions at AT&T Park in San Fran and they had a Giant Dog when we were there and it was a Hebrew National jumbo dog like Costco has in their snack bar.

Hebrew National is the best hotdog I have found including some butcher shop specialty dogs.

The jumbo Hebrew Natioanls are great to eat. I have grown attached to Thumans dogs, Costco sells them in a 5 pound sack during the summer. They come linked together and you have to cut the strings off, but it is worth it. Those dogs have a nice crisp taste when cooked on a grill. I have even had them deep fried, they are even better.

I totally agree.
They finally had something for the Bama fans that cannot afford, or get, tickets to get together and root for the Tide.
I knew when they moved it off the Quad, the rich people were upset at having to manuver through the poor masses.

So, did anybody actually see the Five Guys, Burgers, and Fries?

i was living in dc, where five guys started and where there are more locations than starbucks, when they opened that fiv guys in ttown. i'd had the thought myself that it would do well in ttown, and i guess if i had any business know-how i'd have tried to do it myself, but i had no idea it would take off to the extent of having one in bds. on a side note, best stadium food i've seen is at the new nationals stadium--they have a ben's chili bowl, a dc landmark a la dreamland. their specialty is a chili half-smoke, the best chili dog you've ever had
I've always been willing to pay more for good food.
I wouldn't eat the hot dogs they have been selling before this year. They looked like they had been cooked 4-6 hours before the game, were smothered in something that looked like sauer kraut and cole slaw and the bun morphed into the dog. It was mushy and tasted terrible.
I ordered the foot long dog this time, had a choice of what toppings I wanted, and it came out on a fresh bun and was hot. I added the mustard and ketchup and it was great. My son had the Dreamland Nachos and they weren't worth the cost. Very little BBQ but he said they tasted good.
I will be buying more of these as they had a great flavor and enhanced my enjoyment of the game. I just wish I had more options in my section of the stadium. I felt the value of the food was relative to the upgrade of food choices.
It's like buying the expensive popcorn and drinks at a movie. It's my choice. I can do without or I can just include it as part of the cost of enjoying the movie. If the product is good, I'm willing to spend a few extra dollars.

I am not rich and I don't mind moving through the masses. There were a lot of people there, and it happened to be the same weekend a lot of stuff was stolen from my tent, while I slept there. It brings different elements to the Quad, some good, some bad.

Several points:
1. Despite all the complaints, more people are tailgating on the Quad than ever. It just takes far more planning and coordination of your effort. Gone are the days of just showing up early, parking as close as possible and dropping your tent. Now you have to know when the dropoff times are and have your tailgating supplies in some sort of device on wheels so as to get them easily to your chosen spot. Once the dropoff is done, there's plenty of parking, it's just not where you might like it to be. Parking safely for $10 at the soccer lot and taking the shuttle in is easy and really only a problem if you make it one.
2. I continue to be impressed with the Crimson Ride system and traffic flow both before and after games. Last night we didn't have to wait more than 30 seconds to get on a shuttle, got to the Quad about 5 minutes after that, then it was just a quick two block walk into the stadium. Getting out was even easier, but I left early in the 4th quarter. Last season I stayed until the end of all games and still got back to my car at the soccer lot (via Crimson Ride) within 20 minutes after walking out of the stadium.
3. The $6 souvenir cups are pricey, but I LOVE the cup. It's huge and the holographic pics are totally cool.
4. The hotdogs are FAR better than before, so I didn't mind the $4. The bun was fresh, the kraut was fresh and the dog was very tasty and filling.

I'm mildly displeased with the higher prices. However, the drinks are bigger than they were last year and the hot dog I had was better. I did luck out on a drink last night when they only charged me $4 for a $6 dollar drink.
The biggest complaint that I had was that I could not get any POPCORN in my area which is the south end of the west upper deck. My nephew wasn't very happy about this.:biggrin: I check all three levels and none of the concession stands had any. I did see some popcorn in the lower level but wasn't willing to go to the trouble of getting some. They also didn't have any candy like M&M's available. You could still get cotton candy from one of the "walkaround" vendors.:conf2:

Well, regarding the $4 hot dogs, they are almost exactly the same dogs that have been served at BDS (and Legion Field) for years. The only difference after the price increase? Less fixings than ever before. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same dogs. Of course, I didn't try the longer dogs. And by the way, regarding the kraut/ketchup/mustard mixture...it's been served on Bama dogs for well over 20 years...it's a Bama dog staple.
