Gees, do you think we may have called different plays and run a different defense if we knew the football game was going to be 80 minutes? Honestly, how can someone use the argument that "we ran out of time" in a blowout?

I predict such comments will escalate up through the ranks into the locker room IF there is a rematch in the SEC Championship Game.

from DawgSports.com:

At the end of the game, the Alabama fans on hand in Sanford Stadium launched into the "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer" cheer, which contains the line: "We just beat the Hell out of you!" Those participating in this chant knew that what they were saying was untrue. More precisely, it was a half-truth . . . the first half.

Football, however, is a 60-minute game, not a 30-minute one, and therein lies the difference between my being a dejected Georgia fan and a hopeful one. For a while there, the Bulldogs were getting the Hell beaten out of them, but, in the end, all they got was beaten. The Red and Black lost what wound up being a darned fine football game, and (unlike Florida, Southern California, and Wisconsin) they lost it to a darned fine football team.

Actually, even that does not sound quite the right note. Bear Bryant said it best on New Year’s Eve 1973, after his Alabama squad lost the Sugar Bowl to Notre Dame: "we didn’t lose; we just ran out of time."

LOL - It is to be expected. You didn't expect them to totally roll over and play dead, did you?

They still have confidence in their team, and I don't blame them. Were the shoe on the other foot, I would also be proud of the way that we fought back after being crushed in the first half. They ALMOST made a game of it...

Alabama lost the 73 Sugar Bowl by 1 point.
Georgia lost the "Blackout Game" 41-30.
Wake up Mr. Feel-good news writer.

I have already heard here at work in Georgia - that we don't want to see them in the SEC Championship game in Dec. I responded with it's VERY HARD to beat the same team twice in one season, but....it has been done. Also, it's hard to run the tables, but I hate all this should've, could've, would've junk. This is why the game is played, but my smile is very bright and cheerful and I don't even have to say a word.
Roll Tide!!

If both teams are fortunate enough to make it to the SECCG maybe we could call it the "Wipe Out". There is still two full months of conference play and that is murderous.

There's one guy on Dawg Rant, "Greenville" something or the other, who says he's been a coach for 33 years and it would have been simple to beat Bama, if they had adjusted to the very simple offense we run. Complained that their DC just didn't make any adjustments. Also, the penalties were really the only difference in the. Most of them also seem to feel they never really committed any fouls... :D

How could it have been a "darned fine football game" when the dawgs were never closer than 14 points since early in the game and then at the end only by virtue of a couple of meaningless scores? It's just incredible how some folks will try to spin ANY situation. This guy is a spinmeister of dang near allbarnesque status. :eek2:

That game was nowhere near as close as the score indicated. I don't care what anyone says...

Two of those TDs were gimmes, end of story. No-one will convince me otherwise, especially the UGA fans.

And Earle I'd have to agree with him. That's the beauty of the win. Football isn't rocket science. Nick Saban said himself on the Gameday Panel that he has no "secret formula". Football is about preparedness, both mentally and physically. It's about execution of the fundamentals and not making big mistakes. That's usually what wins ballgames. That is pretty simple thinking.

The problem is coaches like Richt have introduced gimmicks, emotional drivers like the "black out" and have gotten away from the basis of winning football. He's not the only one that has become a victim of this. Many coaches have now gotten into the production of how the players come out of the tunnel, wanting smoke, fire works and loud head banging music. When none of those things contributes to winning a game.

Next time Richt might want to spend more time on how to defend the pulling guard that was sealing off the left end rather than coordinating the attire of the fans. :)

Don't forget, Wingnut likes to walk out holding hands with his players. Brilliant!

Had even one of the two block in the backs been called on the TD return, 23 points may have been all that was scored. Oh well. The Tide won so who gives a rats what the Dawgs' writer thinks.

I guess it comes down to that they don't believe there is such things as rules that apply to both teams. The rule was set long ago that the game would be played in 60min. Everyone prepares for 60 Min. You have to find a way to make adjustments and guide your team through 60 Min. We managed our 60 min better than they managed there 60 min. If you want to go and change that, then I'd have been for ending the game at 30 minutes and going to bed early.

And, BB, preparedness includes teaching your players to avoid stupid self-destroying penalties. It's obvious from both this game and their history that Richt and staff are not doing that. They deserved what they got. And, BTW, despite the dogs' alibis, that uncalled block in the back directly caused a TD for them. They should be happy with that...

You're exactly right. They score should have been 41-23 and they know it. But it doesn't matter because whether it was 41-23 or 41-30 it still counts the same and that's as a "W".

ROLL TIDE!!!

Or from the other side: You didn't really "run out of time" so much as show up 2 hours late.

That is the best way to put it, too. But people see what they want to and apparently this person failed to see his team waste so much of the time they had in the beginning as to put themselves in such a dire and desperate position when time was running out.
